Sure wish I could see what you see. The three wire plug on mine was easily accessible after I removed the speedo head...The wiring harnesses run under the tank from the plug and attach to the fuel pump and the gauge. As I remember, the 3 wire one was a white tri-lobed connector, and the fuel pump was a black flat connector...it's been a while since I looked

To get the plastic neck cover off, it looks like plastic push screws and seems like there is a set behind the fuel tank that i can't get to with a screw driver.  Do they just pull out?

2 wire is for the fuel pump, 3 wire for the fuel gauge

There looks to be a 2 wire and maybe a 3 wire plug on the right front side of the tank, but they are behind the plastic neck cover.

The main plug is only part of the equation. there is a small, 3 wire plug that feeds the main plug to the meter. Bad connections here will skew the gauge readings. I don't remember the wire colors, offhand, but the wire for the low fuel light is blue....I think

Kevin, did you get the fuel gauge workin' ?

I did get the spedo off and checked that main plug, looked good.  I can move the needle with my finger and it stays wherever I move it until I plug it back in and give it power.  It then goes back to E.  I did find that the gas light does work.  It came on and it took 3.4 gallons to fill but needle still didn't move.

They wouldn't believe ya, because of the cheap amount of money you've spent to buy it! ;)

People ask me all the time--"Was it expensive?!"

I nod my head, "yes" I say solemnly.

I do not want others to catch on and ruin this good thing. Because given the chance, they will ruin this good thing.  (smile)

It was fun.  They did a slow roll competition. One Indian guy wanted to talk until he got close enough to see the Kaw on the speedo.  He started talking then stopped and said "oh,......it's a kawasaki " then walked off.  I find this so funny that people get so stuck on a name.  Just another reason I love this bike.  I like being different and not having a lable across my forehead.

I guess the hard-bags of that black Indian (That IS a Indian, isn't it?) would really compliment our Drifters.
But I can imagine the huge amount of $$$ they cost...

Yes, the one beside me is an Indian.  There were 5 Indian bikes there, all looked right off the showroom floor.  Also the new 2017 Jack Daniels edition was making an appearance.

CDNRatMan

There is a local lad who had a 800 and had it Indianized to the max, he dropped it and swore he was not going to ride again.

1 year later and he has a 1500, painted all black and has Indian on the tank, wears an Indian Jacket, not my problem not my issue but when he is asked what he is riding his response is that it is an Indian Drifter, he enters any of the show and shines and enters it as an Indian Drifter.......
This worked until the owner of a real Indian took exception to it and pointed it out to the judges and he was asked to withdraw from the show. So just goes to show.
I have had Indian rides stop and talk and once I explain it is a tribute bike made in 1999 when there was no Indian they are all cool about it.

I will be ordering the one that just says Drifter on it.  That will keep them guessing.

i find that the indian guys are quite interested in the drifters and are happy to talk about the tribute bike....it's the harley guys that i find strange.

On my bike, I got rid of all names for that very reason.

Forget about the speedo cable as the 1500 does not have one,

outlaw

I have the 800 and when I take out the screw, I then slide it forward, as there is a tab that fits in a slot in the front, raise it up slowly and disconnect the speedo cable, not sure about the 1500 but the 800 has 2 plugs that you disconnect under the speedo housing that you are lifting up, Love the seat

Other than this screw, how do I get this thing off?
