Read Johns post from that quote; he said no members from the Dakota and Montana.....was browsing members bikes (and drooling on myself) and happened to spot the two members locations. No biggie.

even 49 would not stoop so low as to charge a fellow drifter for lodging at his place .........

Never!! All you would have to do is wash the floor and dishes........depending on how much you ate...... ;D

I've looked at the members map and it seems that it would need some hard riding to pass the book around the whole of the USA not to mention Canada..Some states have no members and for outsiders like me it is a great suprise to find Texas seems almost empty with only four Drifters..and what's the story with Oklahoma, Nebraska, Wyoming, Dakota, Montana, and Idaho..are these areas where people don't ride motorcycles..

Thousands of miles away it is hard to get a true picture of what is happening in the USA today, I realise the cost of living has shot up, a night in a motel in the sixties was $6, food was cheap and fuel was almost given away. I havent been out of Britain since 9/11 when security was tightened up so much that to get on a plane was to be treated like an animal, searched, not allowed any comfort, having to remove your shoes, subjected to interrogation on arrival anywhere, in fact I think my last flight was in 1977.

Maybe I will have to reconsider and get a new passport, book a flight to the States, buy a motorcycle, ride each State for a few months, take in a few rallies, then sell the bike and fly home again.

In the mean time if some of you want to organise a book relay between a number of States I can send a copy of the book to the organiser.

John.

Mr. GB......I'll talk to the head of the GreenBarn family estate and see what she is going to charge me for a nights lodging........see what happens when she learns you are going to charge me........

She would undoubtedly let you say for free...  I, in the other hand, am trying to raise funds for a 2-tone paint job... ;D

better head out of Evansville tomorrow.  Supposed to be in the 50's but better head south real quick.  St. Louis and Oklahoma City will be in the 20's and 30's not to mention possible white rain.

Plenty of motorcycle riding in those states, but a lot of those ares are such wide open country that internet can be tough to come by.  Also, the mindset of many out west is not really tech savvy, but more blue collar.  I'm sure there's Drifters out there, but those are probably going to be more lone wolf types.

As for your book, it may be locked in for the winter already.  Evansville is in the lower left corner of Indiana, and I'm just east of Indianapolis in central Indiana, and Christmas Eve morning it was 7F here with a wind chill of -1F.  Few will ride a motorcycle for hours on end in that!  I know that on that morning it was very cold all the way down into Tennessee.  That was just 2 mornings ago.  Winter set in early this year.

The only problem is that you would have to go back 48 years in time..

That would be quite a trip, John.  Probably worthy of another book, I would imagine.   It would sure be a whole lot of fun.

I carried the book for a few miles earlier this year.  It was a neat experience, and well worth the effort.

That would be cool to start something similar on THIS forum...

Is there anyone between indianna and Arizona who would like to have a chance to meet up with other riders?

Here's the story..

In 2008 I rode all over Wales, only a small country, with small roads but still a good ride. After completing the ride I wrote a book about my experiences with lots of photographs of the different places..

In 2011 an American started a difficult ride home of several thousand miles in all types of weather, after buying a V twin motorcycle. I offered a copy of my book if he completed the ride..

On receipt of the book he decided to pass the book to another rider several hundred miles away, the other rider read the book, signed it and then rode another distance to pass the book to another rider and so on..In this way the book is still travelling, but the winter is closing in and the book needs to travel to a warmer area before it gets closed in for the winter..

So do we have a rider within a hundred miles or so of Evansville who would be willing to meet up with a Honda Shadow rider to read and pass the book on..

John.
