Are snow snakes like snowhawks?
Do yaguys in sunnier climes know about snow snakes? Ya gotta watch 'em; if you don't know, I'll let the Ratman explain it to ya......
ok so the blue worked really well they fit really snug, and yes I used shrink tubing on all the connections. JH I have shippeda snow snake out to Troll as pay back along with a really nice framed picture of myself in the snow.........see who laughs last......
Used apower source from a snowmachine/marine grade........
Yellow is for 14 ga, blue for 16, and red for 18.....I always liked solder and heat shrink, but crimp works if you have a good crimping tool that makes a "W" crimp, not just squashing them in the middle...Put some heat shrink in the wire before you crimp, and then slide it up over the blue (or red, or yellow) insulator on the connector, and warm it up to seal out the Canadian weather.....
Quote from: CDNRatMan on March 06, 2013, 15:36:25 PMWe call them crimp bullet connectors and they come in different colors for different thickness..the figure eight socket is so you can attach two items in one socket..the bullet connector you show will work with that socket which will be a bit loose but you can close the socket with a pair of pliers to make a tight fit or you can use the red connector which (I think) is slightly bigger...while you are asking for a dog dick connector you could also ask for some film perforations for unperforated film, a left handed screwdriver/hammer, a bucket of steam and a larger wrench or a longer piece of string. So I am looking at the connectors and I have never seen a blade that is large enough to slide in and can not find any, one of the auto electrical places suggested that the plugs were made to plug 2 wires into them, and I know about over loading and all that because I have been reading the other post with interest on this subject, but the plugs look like this = Top picture
the guy suggested that I use the bullethead plug as seen in the second picture.
I am looking to only power a MP3 player and a GPS at the most.....
so those bullethead plugs would work and be snug, am I on the right path here?
John.
I believe I used these connectors to connect:

They fit nicely, no issues.
Cut them off, solder-and shrink-tube on connectors you are used to, or go to Kawi and see if they have OEM connectors.
Well Troll went to Wally World (Wal Mart) they had no clue as to dog dicks for electrical connectors were and the dude there was really old at least as olda s49 and PC he was really dusty. Figured he would know, then went to an auto place and got the deer in the head lights look. So going to use the ones I have, and I got some shrink tubing to cover them with and will make it right. Went and bought the rest of the parts and will mount it upo this weekend. Have a good nite.
Thank you Gentleman, go to go to Wal-Mart and get some dog dicks.....or to the Auto supply place....lol....
Here's another good wiring option that I've used on occasion. I prefer heat shrink - crimp-type connectors, but sometimes these are easier and we've had good luck with them on automotive applications, trailer lights, etc., when needed. They're quicker than crimp connectors, and require only a pair of pliers (just about any type will work), no wire stripping, and they have gel in them for moisture/corrosion resistance. They are the 3M scotchloks, the 314 size is good for most wire you would use for a bike or auto (22-14). Just to clarify, these are a WHOLE LOT better than the cheap blue snap-together connectors like you get included with just about any type of electrical accessory - I throw those away, due to the fact I've seen a bunch of failures. Incidentally, 3M sells the cheap junk snap-together connectors, also branded Skotchlok (methinks a mistake on their part to label them both the same). I imagine the 3M brand snap-toghethers are somewhat better than the cheapie ones you get a dozen of in an electrical accessory, but I still don't trust them, not when there exists heat-shrink connectors or gel-filled scotchloks.
CONS: ***kind of big, compared to shrink-connector***kind of expensive ~$1 ea.PROS: ***easy***quick***no special tools***gel-filled - weather resistant***can splice 3 wires*** sold on AMAZON so VDR gets $$$***
BEST OF ALL: NO STRIPPING REQUIRED (neither the wires, nor Ratman.....)
I just looked at those wires last night. I am going to use them on a relay for the power side of my driving lights. i will cut those connectors off and solder and shrinkwrap the wires together.
or...has anyone put the relay in the headlight bucket and used the aux wires in there?
ya, I remember the days. I use to own a TR3. British Leyland everything. Best friend owned an MGA,..I loved the TR,don't I wish I still had it. Would take an MGA as a second choice as well.
That was half the problem...they all had dog dick connectors! The British auto industry went to hell with the advent of British Leyland...All the manufacturers were lumped together...and collapsed together...kind of like what happened to their Motorcycle industry. The nice thing about the 2 fuse thing was that the wiring was simple and color coded...the French used all one color with little white numbers stamped on the wire every so often (we sold Renault and Peugeot, too)
Wait, I know,I know,......the one with the dog-dick spliced into it?
I just figured, since he's Canadian...or Canadien...Ratman would appreciate the term Old Joe (the prince of darkness) Lucas used for these common connectors...and it brought up a whole flood of memories...Do you know what a winker bottle is? Have you ever polarized a dynamo? Back in the olde days when the British Auto industry was flourishing, I worked for a dealer in Huntington, N.Y. who sold M.G., Austin-Healey, Lotus, and TVR. Those cars generally had 2 fuses...35 amp (12.5a continuous) fuses...one for the lights and wipers, and one for everything else...and which one do you suppose would blow on a dark, rainy night?
