Electrical Accessory plugs Question

Here's another good wiring option that I've used on occasion.  I prefer heat shrink - crimp-type connectors, but sometimes these are easier and we've had good luck with them on automotive applications, trailer lights, etc., when needed.  They're quicker than crimp connectors, and require only a pair of pliers (just about any type will work), no wire stripping, and they have gel in them for moisture/corrosion resistance.  They are the 3M scotchloks, the 314 size is good for most wire you would use for a bike or auto (22-14).  Just to clarify, these are a WHOLE LOT better than the cheap blue snap-together connectors like you get included with just about any type of electrical accessory - I throw those away, due to the fact I've seen a bunch of failures.  Incidentally, 3M sells the cheap junk snap-together connectors, also branded Skotchlok (methinks a mistake on their part to label them both the same).  I imagine the 3M brand snap-toghethers are somewhat better than the cheapie ones you get a dozen of in an electrical accessory, but I still don't trust them, not when there exists heat-shrink connectors or gel-filled scotchloks.

CONS: ***kind of big, compared to shrink-connector***kind of expensive ~$1 ea.

PROS:  ***easy***quick***no special tools***gel-filled - weather resistant***can splice 3 wires*** sold on AMAZON so VDR gets $$$***
BEST OF ALL:  NO STRIPPING REQUIRED  (neither the wires, nor Ratman.....)

I just looked at those wires last night. I am going to use them on a relay for the power side of my driving lights. i will cut those connectors off and solder and shrinkwrap the wires together.
or...has anyone put the relay in the headlight bucket and used the aux wires in there?

ya, I remember the days. I use to own a TR3. British Leyland everything. Best friend owned an MGA,..I loved the TR,don't I wish I still had it. Would take an MGA as a second choice as well.

  That was half the problem...they all had dog dick connectors! The British auto industry went to hell with the advent of British Leyland...All the manufacturers were lumped together...and collapsed together...kind of like what happened to their Motorcycle industry. The nice thing about the 2 fuse thing was that the wiring was simple and color coded...the French used all one color with little white numbers stamped on the wire every so often (we sold Renault and Peugeot, too)

  I just figured, since he's Canadian...or Canadien...Ratman would appreciate the term Old Joe (the prince of darkness) Lucas used for these common connectors...and it brought up a whole flood of memories...Do you know what a winker bottle is? Have you ever polarized a dynamo? Back in the olde days when the British Auto industry was flourishing, I worked for a dealer in Huntington, N.Y. who sold M.G., Austin-Healey, Lotus, and TVR. Those cars generally had 2 fuses...35 amp (12.5a continuous) fuses...one for the lights and wipers, and one for everything else...and which one do you suppose would blow on a dark, rainy night?

Yup what you have should work.  The curcuit under the seat is fused at 10 amps so your GPS or MP3 should work fine. I also use mine to plug in my battery tender.

RatMan, I've always known the connectors in the Head Light bucket as "Bullet Connectors" Here's a couple sites that might help you out, You can crimp and solder them then add a terminal cover. Good Luck.

Seriously, though, if yours will fit snug, they should work fine. I prefer the heat-shrink connectors, but where you're at, it probably doesn't need to be.  Make sure, though (on the B+ at least) when your new dog-thing is plugged in, there isn't any exposed metal to touch anything else.  Your pic looks like they would be fine.

Seeing as how you are in Canada, the English term for these connectors is "dog dick"..(I worked for an English car dealer for about 5 years)...They are just slightly smaller than the standard ones you can buy at the auto parts (or Wal-Mart) store, but once they are connected, they are going to stay that way...They are fed by the same circuit, protected by 1 10 A fuse.

  So I am looking at the connectors and I have never seen a blade that is large enough to slide in and can not find any, one of the auto electrical places suggested that the plugs were made to plug 2 wires into them, and I know about over loading and all that because I have been reading the other post with interest on this subject, but the plugs look like this = Top picture

the guy suggested that I use the bullethead plug as seen in the second picture.

I am looking to only power a MP3 player and a GPS at the most.....

so those bullethead plugs would work and be snug, am I on the right path here?

  Ok I have a serious question now. No messing with PC or 49 just a question that I am mulling over. So on the 800's under the left side cover are 2 wires in the first picture and they are labelled for "Electrical Accessories" W/BL and BK/Y, one is negative and the other is of course positive, in the headlight pod the same thing......same wires ok.....
