Thanks Bucko.
The R1 owner's manual says it should be  950 ±50 rpm , while the information on the next page says 800 ±50 rpm:
https://www.vulcandrifterriders.com/1500specs.html
Which one is correct?
Is is there any difference between the J and R variants?
Thanks!

950 ±50 rpm is correct for J's and R's

I need to adjust the idle down on my 2001 drifter , fuel injected. How do I do that?
Big Foot

Some advice, FWIW, if you set the idle too low on these bikes, i.e. so that is sounds like a lumpy Harley, you'll have both cold and hot starting issues.

I too have just purchased a 2001 Drifter 1500. The idle knob should be in that position. If it is not on yours, it's possible that a previous owner moved it to a different place.

Big Foot

Thanks for the reply. I have a 1998 Classic that has that knob. It has a carburetor. My 2001 Drifter is Fuel Injected and doesn't have the adjustment knob. How do you adjust the idle on a Fuel injection engine???

Fab

Hey Big Foot,

You can adjust the idle speed with the small black knob in the attached photo.
Turn it clockwise to increase the idle speed and counter-clockwise to lower it.
