Yeah, that's what I figured... pre-production (prototype).  Too bad no black face speedo, though!

the bikes shown in those are article were prototype...not production...makes sense now. i love finding this type of stuff....

well...i found it...its in the history pages ( mcc-1098.pdf ) it was before the fuel gauge and leds lights on the dial.  lights for: fuel, oil, turn signals , high beem and gas...idiot lights...awsome.

I've looked at the 1999 press info and accessories catalog... no 5 light dash shown in any of them. I suspect this was a pre-production bike used for advanced advertising.

maybe that black dial did not have the fuel gauge and one was a low fuel light.

being a photographer i watch things way to close sometimes....sorry for the bother....one light looks red...but ...oh well. but it does get one thinking what it could be....maybe that was before the led's were put under glass, cause the dial looks different.

I've watched that two dozen times and never caught that.

There are definitely 5 there... but the drifter was never produced with that many (not in USA/Canada anyway)... a second pic is attached from a bike mag in 1999 showing the dash with the expected 3 lights. I guess they could be buttons, but whatever they are... they never made onto our bikes.

I bet you are looking at the two switches that control the digital instrument cluster and thinking they are lights...

the one on the front page ...it was the video advertizing the drifter when it was first offered..i have the small leds by the fuel gauge....but only 3 lights turn,neutral, high beam...i'll look at the video again.

I lied, it also has a low oil pressure light.

My 2001 has a light for neutral, turn signal, low fuel, high beam and efi problems (check engine light)

i watched the video about the drifter 1500....but there were 5 lights on the dash...mine only has 3..what was the other lights for ?
