Fuel Tank Capacity 2003 1500 Drifter

Of course due to normal variation, every one will be slightly different on when the push-me light comes on.

I put 4.72 gallons in a completely dry tank after new paint on my 2001.  That's exactly what I had in my gas can that I just filled.  there was still a little bit of room for more, so I would say the tank is right at 5 gallons when dry.  My low fuel light comes on when I have about 1.2-1.3 gallons left in the tank (based upon filling it back up like you did).  And I average about the same mpg...maybe one day I will take a fuel container with me in one of my bags and run completely empty just to see how far I can really go on a full tank...

Hi all. New to the site and my new old 2003 1500 Drifter. Picked it up from the original owner late in the season last fall. Spent the winter working on it. Got the first long rides in this last weekend. I really like this bike.

My question concerns fuel capacity. All the specs I find online says 5 gal. Running it from full to empty, warning light on twice. I was around 155 miles each time. Filled it up with avg 3.7 gal according to the gas pump. So, 40/41 mpg. Not bad for a 1500cc really.
But if the tank was really 5 gal, I would expect to get closer to 200 miles on a tank full at 40 mpg.

So to my question. Does anyone know what the actual size of the tank is on a 2003 1500 drifter?
