Got rid of one bike, bought another

Just put the rear rack on and will get the rear tire/wheel back today but am waiting on parts from Harley as the rear caliper bolts holding it on the bracket were history. Also, since the previous owner could probably not take one of the bolts out-star/Torx- he didn't replace the brake pads and they were down to 1mm. Belt is in excellent condition and wheel/spokes are good too. I put in an extra rim strip as just one is not enough in my estimation as I did this on the Drifter too. After I get the rear on, it will be time to put on a new front tire. I bought Conti Tour as they are steel belted with dual compound; hard in the center and softer in the outer for going around turns. One real plus and I don't know why more manufacturers do this is, to put drain holes in the front forks so you can change the fluid without having to take the forks off. My old Moto Guzzi has them and it is 49 years old!

Just took a ride around the driveway and back to make sure everything is working, hand controls, new brake caliper, transmission, clutch cable etc. This bike is almost impossible to find neutral. Perhaps after riding it more it will reappear. The Drifter is almost too easy to find neutral. The clutch cable is difficult because you have to take the trans cover off to do it which also means you have to loosen the exhaust (at least on mine that does not have stock exhaust) and drain the trans fluid which has this little tiny Allen magnetic drain plug which is in finer thread than 3/8-24 possibly 3/8 -28-32(?). I found water contamination in the trans fluid so I cleaned it all out. All the other fluids are new and look great. Steering is different than the Drifter because the rake is different and wheelbase is a bit shorter. More stuff to do namely, tires and it is off to the races.

I don't know what the attraction is for those ape hangers other than to look like you are a 1%er. When I move the bike around- and it does weigh more than the Drifter- you simply cannot get much leverage to move it. The problem is that all the wiring is internal so, they had to be cut; plus they are too long for the switches on the stock handlebars. So, not only do I have to replace the bars but, I have to replace the clutch, throttle and brake cables. Luckily, in the picture I first ordered the 7 1/2" rise with 10" pullback and they are like roto tiller bars but did not spend much for them. So, I ordered the stock handle bars with a 4 1/2" rise and 5" pullback. They only type of bars left are the beach bars but I had them on my Gilroy Chief and I did not like them. The stock should work fine. The bike is painted like a '46 Knucklehead and runs/sounds great and it was had for $2000 trade in + $3995 cash. Somebody put quite a bit of time and money into this bike. I have had an EVO motor before and with a single carb (S&S) it is basically foolproof.

In my old age I just simply could not ride my sport bike much anymore. It was very difficult to mount it with my bad back. So, I traded in the Suzuki and bought a Harley. Gonna keep the Drifter though as it is very reliable. I've got to do some things to the Harley namely, new rear tire, vintage rear rack after I remove the pillion, definitely get rid of the ape hangers, and some others. It is a 1991 Heritage softail done up to look like a 1947 Knucklehead as I have a picture of one with the same color/tank badge scheme. One thing, it definitely has the tone in spades.
