A ton of movies were filmed there particularly silent film swashbucklers and as I recall some of "Mutiny on the Bounty" (Clark Gable) was done there. All the Hollywood film stars went there through the early nineteen hundreds to the mid sixties. A lot of the stars had sailing vessels and since it is only 20 miles from Wilmington (LA Harbor) to Avalon it doesn't take more than several hours to get there-by sail that is. William Wrigley was the principle owner until somewhat recently and donated 99% of the island to the Nature Conservancy so no building can take place anywhere on the 99%. A good friend of mine who is also a sailer knew the captain of John Wayne's converted minesweeper "Grey Goose" and whenever Duke was in Avalon and my friend was there he would go over to Duke's boat and have some drinks with him. He said that Duke was a friendly, great guy and all AMERICAN!

Funny, I met John Wayne once, he was on his yacht in Newport.....

Yes he would....   He would ALSO chastise those of us too busy or lazy to clean the WWW so have switched to black walls, LOL

The rear tire seems to be the biggest headache. A lot of brake dust and dirt accumulates after just 200 miles of riding. I use a degreaser with Bleche-white and a spoke brush. You have to do a portion on both wheels than move it forward and do some more etc. then wash them. Dry naturally or with compressed air. I have never used the Mr Clean but I will try it. An interesting story is that my ex-girlfriend swore that the "Mr Clean" character was fashioned upon a greeter on Catalina Island that was named "Duke" and was buffed with a bald head and ultra tan.

I will have to try Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I have flown Catalina Island.....Some of the movie the in-laws was filmed there...

I've used the magic eraser.  Probably as easy as any other way I've tried.

I don't know...only have 100 miles on mine so far   I'll have to try the magic eraser when the time comes (my wife swears by them on all here white surfaces in the house...why not my tires, too?)
