Clearance for the Back Fender is?

just be aware that the wheel travel specs and the fender travel specs are different. The wheel travel is based on up and down dimensions.  However the fender pivots on the rear control arm which actually means that the rear part of the fender travels further than the wheel. ( I have the gouges in my fender to prove my miscalculation) Bottom line it fender travel closest to the set is less than at the fender tip.  This is important when considering the hight of a luggage rack.  Tip: If you have a two-up seat, measure the clearance at the far end of the seat.  That is a safe way to insure you have enough fender clearance.

So just to be clear, one should have at least 4 inches between top of back fender and bottom of travel trunk?

I read somewhere that the clearance needed above a back fender on the 1500 is 4.5 Inches. That is you need 4.5 inches of space between fender and bike rack. Can anyone confirm or deny?
Is that with you sitting on the bike or not?
