This is a before and after of how the pistons came out. What looked like a total loss turned out to be reusable parts.

This is how the valves came out after the machine shop. You will also see a factory defect VALVE SPRING RETAINER noted by the red pen. If you can, refer to the first set of pic's to see the corrosion/whatever on the valves before cleaning. I showed the valve assy. layouts for reference.

I'm taking lots of pic's so everyone that wants to see the inside will have the opportunity DC.

DC

Cool project.  I always wanted to see what the inside of our engines looked like.

Elmo Hayride

Sure moosewing3, I'll get right on it.

moosewing3

When your done with that can you do mine please? lol

Elmo Hayride

Will do Chief. It was buried in Ft. Meyers Florida Ratman. Chrome Troll? More to polish, but seeing the other motor is blacked out this one has to have chrome and color.

Troll

Since it's going to be all apart, you can get the covers CHROMED!!!!!

Recovering H-D owner...W-650 Cafe' No excuses...Ride it or sell it to someone who will!

And pray tell us were that engine was buried for so long, looks really bad on the outside.

Like the episode of American Restoration were they found nuts in the exhaust all the way into the top of the piston, which is why they though the engine was seized.  LOL

You seem to have it well in hand........best of luck.
GPS is not to get you THERE but rather to get you home from THERE

'02 Vulcan Drifter 1500

#1

I picked up a 1999 Drifter 1500 motor last year on eBay for $100.00. The catch was, I had to drive from CT. to FL. to get it. That being done I am starting to go through it now and thought I'd put a few pic's up for you to see. I got some of the pieces back today from the machine shop and I'll probably start a gallery  folder in the near future.
