Yup, that is weird with the high altitude where the air is thin and dry, getting these unreal mileage results. whodathunkit? However I've never used an additive and I just dumped some Seafoam in the Drifter today as I keep reading it's praises. Another fellow said yes, your injectors do get funky after time.. recommended pulling and cleaning them. I noticed my '07 Xterra mileage seemed to dropped significantly since the move here 4 years ago, its got 48,000 on it. I'm gonna go with the seafoam in all my injected vehicles as I never used anything in the tank but plain ole ethagas which you would think would dissolve the shite out. We shall see how it works. Drifter has been getting approx 38 mpg and honestly the SoFlo traffic is heavier that I had in Colo. But two road trips to the Sebring 12 hour race did not produce close to the 49+ mpg I used to expect.
Even at 38 mpg are you kidding? It's great!

You mentioned in another post that you used to live in Colorado. When I was in Wyoming couple of years ago, I was getting 45 mpg @ 75 mph, with a completely stock intake, but only around 40 at sea level. The BARO sensor on these systems has quite a bit to do with mileage..more than in a car, since these are not feedback loop systems. When I was in the mountains of Georgia, last July, with my modified intake, I was getting over 52, but "only" 45 back at sea level...Last I looked, Florida was at or even slightly below, sea level...I'm thinking that might be your problem...

I recently changed over to the Spector air cleaner assy, this is the one with the round red top filter and red open element around. I run stock ignition and I'm getting ready to install NGK plugs that are 2 heat ranges cooler  than stock as the ceramics on the stock are quite white. After all, this is hot South Florida.

Agree that plug wires will not effect gas mileage unless the engine is misfiring.  I'd also check the air cleaner.  A clogged filter will cause it to suck more gas.

Try running some seafoam through the old girl.  I'm not arguing the plug wires don't need replaced - but plug wires are more likely to cause an engine miss than poor mileage.

Yes, thanks for that Troll!   Since the Drifter is an '04 that makes the wires 10 yrs old, even with only 19,000 miles, it's gotta time for replacement. Drifter runs good but for some reason gas mileage has dropped significantly in the past 3 years.

Here's a diagram from Partszilla... I don't know if the wires are removable   http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Kawasaki/Motorcycle/2004/VN1500-R4+Vulcan+1500+Drifter/IGNITION+SYSTEM/parts.html
Time for more research. This pic. seems to indicate the wires would be removable...

I want some new plug wires on my '04 1500. do I just order SB chevy wires 8mm and they will work or what do I need for wires. do standard 45 degree work under the tank and the straight in to the plug style of course.
