About optimal rev range of the 800 Engine

My friend rides an 800 classic, he went down 2 teeth on his rear sprocket, and up 1 on the front, It makes a noticeable difference in the rpm's on the highway at 70-75.

But since i don't ride one, i can only tell you what i hear from riding 50 ft. behind him..

There are gearsets for the 800 to changes the RPM's vs. speed thing slightly.  They're designed for lowering the RPM's on the highway a little, but they affect all gears.  Scootworks is one maker.

  not sure how to asnwer this one. But if I let my RPM's down by being in to high a gear the bike is really sluggish and does not handling as it should. Exapmle in most corners I'll gear down to second and then as I open the throttle it response really quick and fast, however if I allow the rpm's to get too low it feels like I might stall or fall over.....and first is too low and I am jerky on the throttle as I accelerate. Hard to explain, it is easier to show you.

Not that there is no interest, it's just that many people basically in the same situation with no real way of doing anything about it. Your owners manual gives a set of shift points, and that would likely be at  the lowest possible rpm for each gear.

Hi everybody!

I have following question:

As the 800 is the medium sized engine of our Drifters, with the 400 engine only of Japanese market, and the 1500 engine the favourite of the US market, what is the best rev range were the engine feels better?

I usually drive the bike at low revs (except in highways a.s.o.), with a relaxed driving style (in urgan traffic) but a low revs I hear a "clonck", "clonck" sound that I dislike.

Talking with other '800 users, they tell me that our engine likes to be ridden at revs, but I think that's just the opposite of our driving philosophy...Right?
