transmission question

You just replaced this whole clutch assy, didn't you?  I know you don't want to hear it, but I think I'd be taking another look at what I did, in case something has worked loose. I had a guy bring me a Sturgis (original, not the new one) he'd just put a new primary belt in. It had a vibration that started about 500 miles after the replacement. The clutch hub nut was loose... just a little, and the hub had shifted enough to start cutting off the woodruff key in the shaft. Could have been a real mess. He got lucky.

If the clutch plates are worn and depending on temp it could just do it here and there. If its the transmission it would sound really bad. If the drive was bad, it would be a constant problem, same with gearbox if something had failed in there you'd hear it. Its not popping out of gear so that doesn't sound like a  bad gear. Since the clutch spring has been replaced, there might be some excessive plate wear. If you happened to use regular oil not designed for wet clutches it would do it as well. And get progressively worse. Might want to look at the clutch spring again, check the plates and make sure they are the right thickness.. I'd also put a magnet in your old oil if you still have it from the last change and see if there is debris before you crack the thing open. Might want to message Troll or Chief directly. I'm sure they will have a better diagnosis.

oil is fresh..clutch and springs all new. dif fluid is fresh..no excess play in drive shaft.. thanks for all the replies. this is def a trans problem

Check the diff oil as well. Jack the bike up, put it in gear, and see how much movement there is in your driveshaft by seeing how much movement in the rear tire, (forward and back, rocking the tire) this will show any excess play in the diff, driveshaft, and gears in tranny. Just a couple more things to check.

Could be you have a bubble in the lines.  Might try bleeding the clutch line.

Since the 1500's are wet clutch how are the fluids? Have you checked the oil? Does it only do it when it's cold? Just a starting point.

so about  2 weeks ago I noticed when I shifted into second and accelerated it felt like how a chain and sprocket feel when they are slipping... it seems worse when the bike is cold.. and I am not talking about real hard acceleration just standard leaving a light or getting up to speed. any ideas what this could be???
