Of course SAFETY is paramount to those who ride and we must ride safely. Sometimes one must take a longer route to keep from harms way. So ride safe.....

I do agree safety is paramount.  But I do hope you realize that this was "tongue in cheek'    Just a flimsy excuse to ride my Drifter all Day and not really get any work done :P

Haha Caveman! YA I got it. Making excuses to ride! Screw it man ya only live once!

:o no it had to be real, you were taking the safe way home and protecting your ride. Nothing that would cause harm to your ride should come close to you and you should ensure to take any course to prevent the bike from damage even if it means going far a field and being late to get home.

It is good to see that others also value safety over speed.
Also very important to keep aware of road conditions no matter how far we have to travel to check on them.
Keep up the good work brother!

I am currently fixing a bike for a friend.  Simple quick repair. He forgot to leave his key. It's no problem as he lives just a mile away.
I pull up to the main road and his house is a straight shot 3/4 of a mile on right.
But.....
I'm not really sure what is was I saw looking right to make the turn, A plane,,,no,,,a big bird,,,no...a big bug....maybe....a mosquito..could be.  Deciding that safety first I went left.
Rode a few miles, Every right turn had a leaf or two on the street...they can be slippery {Yes I know Az is bone dry}  but hey ya never know!
it was several miles before I could find a 'clean' street.   then I saw boulders in the road {you would argue they were tiny pebbles] I'm sure they were boulders.
Again Safety first...I kept going past those hazards.
It finally took me two hours and many many miles to find my way to my friends house.
Got Key
Now headed home,,,wait,,,what was that? Surely a hazard of some sort.  Oh Damn looks like another detour [totally in the interest of safety of course}
Looks like I'm never gonna get any work done today!!!
Oh well perhaps tomorrow.
Oops I just remembered tomorrow I need to get parts for his bike,,the store is 10 miles away.
Gosh, I may have to plan an entire day to go get.
It's all about safety ya know..

I hope his bike is able to be fixed this month ;D
