I forgot to mention that the baffles alone did not quiet my bike enough, so I ended up buying this stuff to wrap outside the baffles before stuffing them in the pipes: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-4-10-x-38-MOTORCYCLE-MUFFLER-EXHAUST-FIBERGLASS-PACKING-/131712967971?hash=item1eaab46523. I also forgot to mention that even with the back pressure created by the baffles, I still had to rejet my carb with a Dinojet kit (stock jetting is just too lean), and now it runs great. The carb kit runs about $50 on eBay and there are YouTubes to show how to do it, not to mention all the expertise available on this forum.

I agree with Tfrank59, on those baffles. I've used them before with great results. As the ad says, you can cut them down until the sound suits you.

If it doesn't work out for you to get that stock exhaust from the other member, you can buy baffles on eBay – all different diameters to fit your pipes – and with some ingenuity get those in there and quiet it down. I may be able to help you. I had the original exhaust but find it too quiet. Bought a pair of RoadBurner wich are a copy of the V&h longshot, and then it was way too loud. Bought a pair of quiet baffles from smartpartz, it did help a lot, but it's still gets the attention of the police here in Quebec, but you've got to understand that here we are not aloud to do any modifications on our exhaust or replace the original with a louder pipe, it's illegal and baffles are mandatory. Ha! But I'm trying to pair down, get rid of extra stuff, simplify, do more with less..... Man, but I saw another Drifter that sure was tempting....

I have never attempted this before. I suppose I could do some research, check out youtubes, possibly buying tools, etc. I was just hoping for a remedy that did not require making my own baffles. But it is now in the mix of possible paths forward. I have a small shop and fabrication abilities so maybe this may be what I end up doing.

Also, do any of you guys have experience with https://bigcitythunder.com/ for baffles for your Drifter aftermarket exhaust?

If your not a fan of loud pipes you can usually find the stock pipes now/then during the year online but every bike model I ever owned always had quiet stock pipes to include my Drifter. I always had to buy aftermarket pipes to get a nice rumble. To each his own. I bought a set of Road Burner aftermarket and was told it is similar to your VH pipes and Iam hoping that to be the case. Will be installing soon.

If you do end up putting new original or any pipes on just make sure to replace your exhaust gaskets with the new pipes.

I bought the bike "used" like most people and it has Vance and Hines exhaust on this 800, but these pipes are way too loud. Can I add baffles or some insert(s) to quiet these down? I like the look of them but man that noise is too just much. Any suggestions?
I emailed Vance and Hines about it and have not had a reply. ...I suppose they don't like it when someone complains their pipes are TOO LOUD.
