Be careful with old/discontinued tires... tires DO have a shelf life which can and does impact wear. I had a set of Maxxis on my 1500... I only put a couple of thousand miles on them... the whitewalls were smurf blue - which I couldn't stand!

You are supposed to wipe the blue off you muppet !

I've used the ME880's for a couple of tire changes... have used dunlop, maxxi, as well.  I prefer the me880's.

What I'm after is a front tire with slightly more circumference... IE: larger around, to take away the 3-to4 mph "error" built in.  Also, one that doesn't follow every groove in the road would be nice.  ME880 looks like a good candidate.  Mike in TX

Neat observations Troll.  I'd sure like to find a front tire that would get rid of the "error" built into my 800.  Mike in TX

  Always check the build date on a tire.  There should be a 4 digit number in an oval next to the dot number. It looks like, say  1509  that would be the 15th week of 2009. If it has a 3 digit code it was made last century. The international rubber manufacturers organization says to remove any tire from service that is 10 years old no matter how it looks, and not to sell ANY tire as new if it's 5 years old or more.   I run Metzelers, and have since 1980. Very happy with them, and now I have a 160/80 16 me 880 on the back of my 1500, and it makes up for the 10% speedo error that is built in. My odometer is spot on over 50 miles, and the speed it says is the speed I'm going.  You have to replace tires anyway, so don't cheap out, or as I was told by a cop back in 1966...."your tires are your life, man" as he wrote me a ticket for a bald rear tire on my 46 EL.

Yeah, I never skimp on tires... I probably trade them out much sooner than most, but having good tires is just one of my things.

I have used these tires more then once and like them allot the get decent mileage.  They are the least expensive of the wide white walls.

Metz 880 white walls on mine. Great tires.My Bridgstones seem to follow the cracks in the road.

Yeah have the Metz's on mine too... have used Cont, Dunlop, Bridgestone, Maxxi and Metz... prefer the Metz.

personally i hate maxis tires....metzler 880' s are the way to go...my 2 cents

I roll with Maxxis at the moment.  Cheap when I got em, new when I got em too.  If they're new and that cheap, get em.

Hi,

Anyone currently running a set of these?  They are wide white walls and from what my online research shows is that they are a good overall tire at an affordable price.  Cheaper than the Dunlop Cruiser Max, the Avon's and the Metzler's. I believe that the maker is no longer carrying this model tire which leads to my question.  Looking online, I have only been able to locate a front tire (size 130/90-16) and not the rear tire (size 140/90-16).  Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a rear tire?
