Nope, tuning the bike to run at its peak performance is something we all want. Dyno is the way to go.

I think you guys are misunderstanding my intentions. I have no elusions of being the fastest bike out there.  I am just trying to get all I can get out of the what I have.  I am a big guy and need all the help I can get.

I finally found the time to get the Dyon Tuning done.   Took it to Thunder Mfg. and Travis did a great job on it.  Starting with the Nomad Map I had put on he only had to tweak it a bit.  Biggest thing was that he discovered that the Power Commander III was doubling the RPMs.  He said there is a batch of Vulcan Power Commanders out there that are set up wrong.  It was just as simple as a Firm ware up grade to fix it.

With RPM thing fixed and the few other tweaks that Travis made, the ride from there to work sure did feel like the bike was running a lot better.  It was nice to have some power left in 5th gear while at hi-way speeds.  ;D

Along with new spark plugs and a K&N Air Filter, I can't wait to take on my buddy's Ducati.   8)

My Drifter is NOT the fastest bike on the road... don't want it to be. The Goldwing will run circles around the Drifter... now THAT is a fast bike with some speed potential... definitely an interstate bike. Have had it over 100 a couple of times... don't know how fast it will go... likely won't find out unless there is a twister on my tail!

When I want to go fast, I pull the corvette out of the garage. I just love to cruise on my drifter not go fast.

tmassey

ride the drifter as is and grin like a kid leaving the candy store....want to go faster...go buy a gsxr or something like it. its a old school cruiser not a vtx 1800.

my 2 cents.

Thanks every one.  I think I am going to get it tuned to the stock air right now.  Maybe this spring look at doing the Hyper Charger. Still have to finically recover from the Holidays and it is good riding season in my part of AZ right now.

You feel the horsepower with the 800, not so much with the 1500. On the left side I've left the air cleaner on looks better. I agree the black hyper- charger does look good.  I also like the look and remarks I get about the hyper- charger. good luck in your decision. it does make it look fast.

I have a Roadhouse 2 –n- 1 and stock air filter on my 2004 1500.  I just picked up a Power Commander III (PC III) because the pipe is starting to "Blue" past the heat shields. I believe this to be because the bike is running lean so I bought the PC III to help with this.

I have been looking at the PC III wed site and do not see a map for the set up I am running right now.  I did find a Nomad 1500 map that is for a Roadhouse 2 –n- 1 and stock air filter.  I think they are pretty much the same in terms of the drive train.

Dose anyone have a map they would suggest or any thought on the Nomad map?

Just found this video, which may be helpful.

I agree about the looks.... it makes it look faster, but it sure screws up the performance. I have yet to get mine balanced out. Runs way too rich at lower speeds. My bike already had the hypercharger on it when I bought it so I have learned to deal with it. Sure looks cool on the bike though, huh CAV? ;D

The first thing you need to know is. When you install a hyper- charger, the right air cleaner will be removed. The plastic piece that connects both the left and right air filters will end up being broken to get it removed. Then it becomes the land of no return. The installation isn't that hard, but making sure you hook-up the wires right is a big deal. the hyper-charger on the 1500 will stick out quite a ways. making your right leg sit in a weird position. I have long legs so I was able to over come the awkward angle. If you don't have a Power commander installed you will need it for the hyper-charger. Once the hyper-charger is stalled it will cost you allot to reverse back to the original air system, so make sure it's what you want to do. To get the most out of the hyper-charger you should get it dyno'd. I love the way the hyper-charger looks on my ride, just make sure it the way you want to go before you proceed.

Thanks for responding so quickly. The Black Hyper Charge on the black bike looks good.

This all sounds like what I was expecting.  I waffle on what to do with the Left side once the air cleaner is gone.  I see that they now offer a fake Hyper Charger with a working butterfly for the hole left behind.  But that is just that much more $$$ to the conversion.

I am 6'4" so not to worried about it sticking out.

Is it worth it for the Horse Power?

I'd like to know what happend?  I have been leaning that direction.

I too have a PCIII on my 1500, to get it fine tuned you could have it dyno'd check prices in your area. I've done adjustments on mine using my laptop. Then taking it for a ride to see if there was any changes, (good and bad). What ever you do DON"T put a hyper-charger on your ride. If you want to know why AnneOakley and I will gladly tell you our horror stories.

Well I finally got the Power Commander installed.  It took more than the advertised 15minets but was not that hard once I can to terms with pulling the tank.

I am using the Nomad map and it is working great so far.  I have only been around town to work with it so far but I can see the big difference.  I still think I will take it to get it dynoed at some point but so far I am very pleased with it and now have an excuse to get it out a do a run up into the hills.

Might be a starting point... the Classic is a closer match. There is a map over on the web site but I don't know what pipes were involved.

When you get the chance you need to take your bike to a dyno and get them to map it properly.
