I just had an epiphany. ...... Maybe it might not be such a bad idea if we were to all exchange phone #s with each other, just in case something were to happen. Clearly, it would not be for immediate assistance, but a phone tree type set up might be useful...Can't hurt if we know where each of us is...

Troll I think that's a good idea, for sure.  You already have my phone no (and yours  ;D).  If you're volunteering for this list, You have my OK to put mine on there!

Just giving this a little (maybe too much) thought..BUT, Ratman, be sure to note down the mileage on your odometer when you leave home, and when you arrive. Since yours is going to be metric, we will have to multiply it by .625 to get a real number. Last year there was a prize on Saturday night for the longest distance RIDDEN to the rally. I missed by 15 miles....
My calculations indicate your trip should be 1018 miles, mine, 1167...maybe I'll win this year. Greenbarn won't even be in the running, with less than 500...

Can we count my side trips to NYC an DC in total mileage? That way I can beat Ratman. Also, you interested in travelling back together Ratty?

greenbarn

I actually thought about that.... I think it's "me", though.   You wouldn't say "ride down with I", you'd say "ride down with me".  So, the way I learnt it, it's "ride down with johnny and me".

Course, who knows if my back-woods teachers knew what they were talking about.. ::)

So, now you have to swing West a bit, and ride down with Troll and Ratman and me.

Received some , not so great news , today from Ventoracing . Seems he isn't going to be able to make Maggie after all this year , bummer  ??? So if there's any drifters out there that would like to link up for the ride down I'd be interested . If not that's fine as well , but as it stands right now looks like I'm riding down by my lonesome .

He who travels fastest, goes alone! Riding with GreenBarn will be a first for me.

We do the same thing in my truck club when we are doing a group ride.  The ride leader/organizer is in charge of the list to make sure only club members have access to it.

I just had an epiphany. Several of us (you know who you are) are going to be riding fairly long distances to get to Drift-In, and for some (you still know who you are) this might be their first really long motorcycle adventure. I've been doing LD riding almost forever, but many have not considered it before. I exchanged address and tel# with Greenbarn, via P.M. since I'm going to his house first, and they we will be riding down, together. Maybe it might not be such a bad idea if we were to all exchange phone #s with each other, just in case something were to happen. Clearly, it would not be for immediate assistance, but a phone tree type set up might be useful...Can't hurt if we know where each of us is...

I would like to check on and/or verify my registration if possible - how would I do that?  I remember registering, but it's been several months, and just wanted to be reminded what I specified in T shirts, etc.

Also, I don't remember seeing anywhere what the fee is for the Drift-in?  I'm guessing there is a fee to cover the T-shirt, misc expenses, etc. etc.??   I couldn't find that info on the Drift-In pages?

Thanks, and looking forward to it.  Not long to go... I REALLY need to get the 1500 mods started...

Here's a quote from Nick: Getting the T-shirts is a gonna cost me a huge amount of $$$ upfront.   So I am going to put in an order the First part of July while I can afford it.
This means you all have til Monday June 30 to reserve yourself a Custom made Rally T-shirt.
I will try to order a few extras depending on the money, but don't count on it.
So if you haven't already registered, do so now.
If you don't want to register but have reservations to make it to Drift-In this year or have every intention on being there or if you just want a T-shirt, then please E-mail me Personally at  wolfchief@charter.net
I will need your FULL NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER AND E-MAIL ADDRESS along with your SHIRT SIZE & QUANTITY.

I'm figuring an average of 45 mpg @ 70 mph (112.7 kph) for my calculations (11-12 fuel stops). I'm going to fill up at about 180-190 miles, (300 Km) average, so the entire trip, not counting what riding we do in the mountains, will run me about $171 for fuel @ $3.70 a gallon (46 gallons). Last year's trip actually averaged a little over 48 for the 2,500 miles ( I got 52 on the Dragon trip) of Drift-In, so I'm thinking I'll be a little conservative with the estimate, and then be happily surprised, again! Just in case you're wondering, when I put the Michelin's on, I bit the bullet and bought a speedo healer so I could fine tune the accuracy of the instrument. I decided I could live with the speed being off by 2.25 mph, as long as the odometer was correct. A lot easier to ride 72 mph than give yourself a headache trying to figure out some arcane conversion formula for mileage in your head!

CDNRatMan

ok using the formula that my bike is good for 150 km, and we are covering roughly 3000 km so divide by 150 so that would be about 20 fill ups.....

on a tank of regular I am good for 150, on super I am good for perhaps 170 km......so need to see

how about this 2996.7 km or 1862.1139 miles one way.

How many fill ups for gas will that be, one way?

Troll

Well, the aluminum was pitted, the paint was nasty,, the chrome was filthy, rust under the fender, the cases were dirty....looked like it hadn't been washed in months, or years....I dunno, I couldn't stand to ride something like that unless it was fresh from a big road trip. Looked like a typical old motorcycle people no longer took pride in.

Troll - it looks well used and rigged for the road....seems a little small for all that gear...the big fairing and the sissy bar. Can't say I like the way engine guards look on the W either....but when I had my T140E, I rigged it with a sissy bar for long trips....I guess you work with what you have. Drifter is much more comfortable on the highway.
Won't hijack the thread with more W photos, but will bring some with me. Looking forward to it.

Drift1 - Originally missed, but just read your previous post that indicates you were leaving 8/11 to arrive on 8/13. I took the advice of the forum to not miss the first day on 8/13. So let's keep in touch on travel details whether it works or not.
Troll - My W is a bone stock 2001, except for having tampered with the tamperproof carbs to stop the popping on decal. I waited to find the right one and it is clean. I just found the small flat factory luggage rack and need install it. So stock and not spectacular...but will bring photos and would like to see yours and talk "W."
Ratman: Where's my nametag?

When I said not spectacular, I meant mainly, not well cared for. Actually, mine, which came from Florida, and had been exposed to salt air looked better before I started on it than his did...

Leaving my house at 0600 on 11, August.

OK, boys, let's settle this:
1) no riding on Troll's pillion for me.
2) Ratman, why don't you take off a day early, head on over to Troll's and pick him up - on your way both of you to pick me up at my house - THEN, YOU could be assured to get the "longest distance" trophy!!
