I pulled a rather dumb stunt last week. I have had the rear mount for an Indian 2-up Chummie seat hanging on the wall for years. Some dude came around and bought some of my antique goodies I had in the shop, and wanted that, so sold it. Then start looking at these Indian style 2-up seats for Drifters, and thought, "one of those on my bike would not only look great, but would give my more leg room. And wouldn't that Indian seat rear mount with the springs on it look good on it". Oh yeah, I sold it.  :-[  A "Kick me" moment.

Not only would you have had it, but the OP could have used it as a pattern to make him one.

That's what I kinda figured.
I'm thinking I can design a pan that can fit into the same mounts yet extends just slightly over the rear fender to fit the look I want.  Gonna take a little extra engineering I guess.  ???

You could shorten the rear pan some to create something like the old Indian Buddy Seat (some people called them "Chummies")  https://www.google.com/search?q=Indian+buddy+seat&newwindow=1&rlz=1C2SAVA_enUS502US502&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=imMWU5GdHcrCyQGX-IEI&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1280&bih=675 , but you'd have to fab the horseshoe rear part of the frame as that would change.  That would be a pretty big mod, but certainly not undoable.  (Ya like that word?)

The rear fender is plastic and moves with the suspension.  Mounting a pad there would end in disaster.  As for a luggage rack with a pad on it, there was a luggage rack made that bolted to the saddlebag struts, and I've seen people mount a pad on it, but the rack was rated for, I believe, 10lbs, so I guess it depends how much you want to keep her around as to whether you go that way or not. ;)  I suppose you could build some really stout struts and a stout rack and mount a pad to that, but it kinda seems like reinventing the wheel to me when a stock pan that has been reshaped and recovered is a lot less work.  JMHO

Thanks. I'll look into using the original pan.
What about adding a passenger pillion pad on the rear fender...? Is there a bolt on kit or luggage rack that you can bolt on to?

There were few options when these machines were in production, even fewer now. You need to be creative and plan carefully. I modded the Nomad rear seat to work with the solo front seat on my '01...It was actually pretty easy to do, but  way the bike is designed makes you think....

The easiest way I can think of to do this would be to cut down and reshape the foam from the stock pan and then recover it.  The advantage would obviously be that it mounts like a stock seat.  These seats have a TON of foam in them and one could easily cut out a bunch and reshape it.

Thanks for the info. I would like to stay with the 2 up seat so my wife can ride with me. I'll have to try to invent something to make it work I guess.
I'll try to post pics of the finished product.

In order to put something like a Corbin Young Gun seat on, I believe you would have to build or modify a seat bracket.  Since the Drifter's seat floats above the rear fender, the back of the seat has to be supported by the seat bracket.  Something like the Dual Tour is rigid through the end of the seat in order to support weight.  The Young Gun, I believe, is meant to be bolted on the back fender, Not cantilevered like the Dual Tour.

You can make about anything work, but you'd have to put some time and effort into the bracket design.

Now if you're wanting a low profile solo seat, many have adapted a pan-style seat, like a Singh saddle, or Heather's Leathers.  There are a few on the forum.

hello everyone I am new to this site and still getting used to using it. I wanted to know if it is possible to put a low profile seat on a 1500 drifter. Such as a young gun Corbin seat???
