Don't get me wrong, I understand the idea, but if I lived where you do I wouldn't even own a car. What tires do you currently have installed? On my 1500, I've had Metzelers and now, Michelins...both are pretty good on dirt roads and gravel "pavement"...When I first got my W-650, it had Avons on it. I replaced them with good tires, and it made a huge difference in both on and off road riding.

Recovering H-D owner...W-650 Cafe' No excuses...Ride it or sell it to someone who will!

What are the implications of installing dualsport tires on my Drifter for winter riding. I plan on continuing to commute through the winter and I'm a bit concerned about traction. I have noticed tremendous instability whenever I have had occaision to leave the pavement with my bike such as going to a friends house who lives on a gravel road and another who's driveway was ostensibly gravel but turned to dirt/mud as I got closer to his house. My current tires are still good, but I know that after almost 10K miles this year I will be replacing them soon. I was looking at tires online and began wondering about more traction. I rode dirt bikes as a kid and never had issues like this. I understand these are totally different animals but I would expect at least some of the skills to cross over. Any thoughts would be welcome...including those which refer to my state of mind. :P
