New pump installed. Fired right up. All better now :)

If it is the fuel pump you should get a fault message when you do the FI fault tests.

Thanks for the info. I think I have checked all of the fuses, but I don't mind looking a little harder. It can't be something to awful hard to figure out, I turn the key, all of my lights turn on and go out, just like they are supposed to, but I don't get that familiar electronic whine when everything is powering up just waiting for me to push the start button. I push the start button and the bike turns over, but it doesn't fire. Troll is hooking me up with a new fuel pump, so I am hoping that things start looking in the right direction once I put that in. If not, I will be back to square one   :P

May I offer a suggestion, it sounds just like what was wrong with mine last summer.

I checked every fuse, replaced the key, switch and all.

What it turned out to be on mine was the master fuse, located on the right side of the battery box. BEHIND the main battery box.

(Mine was really hidden.)
When I opened the rubber fuse cover, it was  fried really bad, put a new fuse in, it was happy days again.

Hmmm, This will be a new area for me, but I love learning something new :) I'll try my hand at that in the morning. Thanks for helping me out! I'll keep you posted.

When my ign. switch went south, I could here something, but not the fuel pump...There is a circuit from the computer that has to see a specified voltage before it will turn on the pump. There is a 4 wire connector from the main harness to the fuel pump. There is a 2 wire connector for the fuel gauge. The black wires are redundant ground, the small red wire is for the push me soon light and the red/white wire is the power to the pump. If you run a wire from the positive side of the battery to the red/white wire, the pump should run. Take a sewing needle and slide it along the wire into the plug from the harness side, this way you won't damage the weather seal on the wire. Connect 12v to the needle and listen for the pump. If it runs, turn on the ign switch and see if it will start. The pump runs constantly when the engine is running, and runs for a few seconds at key up to prime the system.   Good luck.

K. I listened thru the opened gas cap. I'm hearing something powering up but it is not very loud at all. So whatcha think? New fuel pump :p

annieoakley

I don't have any starter fluid but I know where I can buy some lol. I'll open the tank cap and let you know what I am hearing :) Thanks again Troll!

Troll

Are you sure it's the fuel pump? They are usually pretty loud...if you leave the fuel cap open you can really hear them. If the plugs are dry, you're not getting fuel to the engine. Do you have any starting fluid? As I remember, you have a hypercharger... try a squirt of starting fluid in it, and be sure the engine runs.

Thanks for the quick reply Troll :) My plugs are new, I pulled one anyway to see if it was soaked, it wasn't. I just don't think that is my problem. Do you know what sound I'm talking about when I say the initial electronic start up when you first turn your key to the on position? That's the sound I don't hear, so I assume something is not  allowing a relay to actually start the flow of fuel or something, but I can hear the fuel pump pressurizing when I put my ear to the tank :( I'm lost

Replace the plugs...NGKs have a habit of not wanting to fire if they get fuel coated. We run into this problem with the rider ed training bikes every spring. We take them in for service in the fall, they are stored, prepped, and the first class we need them, half of them won't start.

Hi guys! It's been a long time since I have posted on this site but now I have a big problem. Last year I was not able to ride my bike at all due to my job and other issues (very sad year :(  ) but early this spring I replaced the battery, pulled the tank and got rid of the old fuel, and checked all of the fluids, and other items, put in the key and turned on the bike.......I didn't hear the familiar electronic whine that usually comes on when all of the lights and gizmos power up. I flipped the kill switch a couple times, still nothing. I put my ear to the gas tank to see if I could hear anything when I turned the key, it sure sounds like the fuel pump is pressurizing for the 3 seconds but when I hit the starter it cranks but it will not fire. All of my lights come on and go off, but I don't get that initial familiar sound when I first turn the key. I have checked all fuses, checked the ECU (it shows no faults), and I am still baffled. What am I missing :( grrrrr.  I just wanna ride, I now live in the beautiful state of Colorado and there are places I need to explore!! :D
