Best Riding Tune

I think that's what started this thread... I was remembering listening to a particular tune while riding my new 78 HD. Then I realized the music was in my head back in those days. No onboard music!

I don't listen to music when I ride, but often get these tunes stuck in my head while I'm on the bike.

Some of you are missing the great segway that has landed in front of you. This is about the Drifter motorcycle use a little imagination.  Thought that you'd like the humor.

I like a lot of stuff, any and all classic rock and newer stuff too-  faves include Boston, Deep Purple, Rush,
Metallica, Kiss, Ozzy, Queensryche, ZZ Top, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Streetheart, Supertramp, Springsteen, and too many more to list.

When I am really tired, working out, or working on a tan or just need something different, I turn to a metal/rap Mash Ups or  some Dead Celebrity Status, Eminem, 2 Live Crew, and some other stuff that would make my mother blush.

I am never at a loss of tunes to listen too that's for sure, don't really listen to country though, so I can't ride to close to hubby's bike  -  his music depresses me LOL!

Because I'm usually riding in town, I seem to have a lot of jazz in my cerebral ipod (Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, etc.) When I go out to the country roads, it's old country music (Johnny Cash, Waylon, Hank senior). I just have to stay away from George Jones. If I hear 'He Stopped Loving Her Today', I lose it.

Black Sabbath, Doobie Bros, Motley Crue, Journey, Ratt, AC/DC, Guns N Roses, Metcallica, EVH..... the list is endless. He is always asking what good biker tunes he should learn. I tell him "it's all good!!!!"

2000 songs on my itouch... some are good, some not so good for riding... but there is a variety!

The list is indeed long. I have a really hard time naming the best/favorite - since my mood dictates what I want to hear at any particular time.

I like celtic jigs and the like when running through the mountains and twisties... hardcore stuff when running full throttle... mellow stuff on the easy rolling roadways... etc.

That's the good thing about nowadays... back in the old days you would get some riff/ditty in your head and sometimes it was hard as hell to get rid of it... or you simply couldn't remember more than a few bars!

Now you can either listen in real time, or turn it off and play in your own head. Best of both worlds IMHO.

on the quiet side, janis joplin, eagles, steve ray vaughan, jetro.....

Spent many years riding and listening to tunes in my head and the sound of the exhaust. After a few hours of the droning, I am TOO relaxed. The change over to REAL tunes is very helpful to keep me alert.

And, nowadays, I don't always want to stay inside my own head. The combo of good music and the bike is a near perfect escape, especially when my sweetheart is sitting behind me. But, as has been mentioned, sometimes all you need is the rumble. I guess that's why they make on/off switches!

Now there is a problem with all of this... my wife likes country/western... Toby Keith, etc. I'm more Jethro Tull, Hendrix, Stevie Ray, type. So we have a mix that includes both when we ride together. For sure that will keep you awake and alert. <G>

 Gotta like Steppenwolf, Black Betty (RamBam) is a good one; Ray Wylie Hubbard is good, too; Sleep Of The Just, Three Days Straight, Red Dress, After All These Years, are just a few of his that are good; his stuff is a little more laid back though, blues type music.

RamBam did the one I like back in the early '70s.
Several artists (Meatloaf, Sheryl Crow) did versions.
The next best, after RamBam, is  the one by the Aussie group Spider Bait. The electric banjo is pretty cool.
