OK, so......CDN, I'm noticing a pattern here.  2/3 of the year my northern neighbors are buried in a frozen tundra.  July and August are black flies, and then there's shad fly week, so that accounts for most of the nicer months......so I'm beginning to wonder....is there a good time to hang out up there?  There must be, because a lot of folks live there....  ;)  But I mean, you can certainly see where one might begin to wonder.....

ChilliDrift

Wow! I think I'll come up for some shack fishing and sledding and skip the summertime bug season. No wonder you guys like the winter. I think the next road trip will be west instead. lol

45 Bravo

Well HAPPY THANKSGIVING to our brothers up north!!!

They call the nasty things Mayflies around here, although I don't know why, since they show up almost anytime....This year they were in the latter half of July. We have a couple of bridges over the Mississippi, and sometimes they are so thick the city plows them off the road. GAWD, do the piles of them stink in the morning!
http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/weather/news/2006-07-07-mayfly-radar_x.htm
One of the bridges had a steel deck on it and the bugs would get so thick that cars would lose control on the slippery mess, so the State came in and welded little knobs on the steel decking to help with traction...didn't help motorcycle stability much...

@ pcarrell. Now that's a sled.. just need a gun rack and your all set ;)  @ratman thanks for the black fly tip. I do want to make a trip up North one of these days. I'd hate to show up during the full on fly hatch. We get those June bugs and this year I got nailed by a cicada one day. Which prompted me to put the windshield back on. I'm waiting on the grass to dry this morning so I can get the grass cut and go ride today.

Hmm, -40 and up to your armpits in snow...
I can do that, I know how to ride a snowmobile...
one question...

Do you mount the front or back drifter fender on a Skidoo???

45 Bravo

pcarrell

Well, the leaves are peaking here in Indiana too, but with temps barely hitting the 50's and me still trying to get over this dang cold I've been fighting, I'm not sure a long ride is in order.  might have to go for a quick jaunt though.  If I make it out I'll have to drag the camera along.  As for a northern drift-in, can I make a request for sometime warm....like July or something!  ;)

CDNRatMan

;) I am in for that and we can see how many people from the south actually show up, but thing\king just the mention of free food and some will travel. lol.

-40 is ok if I am in my right gear and ready to go ice fishing....lol....

I'll go you one better, CDN, if I win, I'll invite the whole works from this forum up here for Timmies, I'll even import some poutine for those lovers of cholesterol bombs! Catch is, you'll have to come when it is -40 and up to your armpits in snow! That way all those who are forced by mother nature to be  ;D "fair weather riders" ;D will know first hand how it is for us unfortunate (or dumb) (lol) enough to live this far north....

;)ok positive thinking lads....tonite's Lotto Max is 50 million, so greed person I am I will keep 5 mil for me. The rest will go to chairities, and some will go to holding my own personal Drift in. Which of course will be open to all and I'll even let 49 and 45 attend and I'll spring for your meals and drinks. Chili I can cover you and Troll too. See I can be nice sometimes. So think positivethink of me winning that loto and we are going to have some fun.

yes timmies but do they serve poutine? no do youall curl no and hockey well not fair as they are locked out...

nope, no poutine,..biscuits and gravy, no curling,..horseshoes or its sadly named step sister cornhole and we do have a hockey team in OH now.. They pretty much suck when they aren't locked out and if the higherups dont get their ship together, will likely be sold one of these days.

I guess I'd miss real winter too after awhile. The seemingly constant weather cycle down here in southern OH keeps you busy. But I've really enjoyed riding more this year than ever as I bought the Drifter this May, 10k miles later and Im hoping for another mild winter.  We are starting to peak with the colors on the southern facing slopes. With clouds and cold in the forceast in the upcomming week it may or may not be a big show for the leaf lookers from the big city.

49 you say if you win you may buy lunch..

If I win the lottery, I will wear a t shirt like a guy I used to know used to wear.

It said "yes I have a dollar for each of you"

His name is Richard Davis he started Second Chance body armor..

We met in the 80's at a pistol tournament he was giving a product demo at..

Oh you're funny, 45 Bravo! My ship ain't coming in; I just got word, it went down at sea; just missed the edge of the continental shelf, straight to the bottom,LOL. I need to win a lottery too; then maybe I can afford to move where it is warm. And be able to ride more. Where it's warmer. And I'll spring for lunch. Maybe. ;D

I lived in CO and honest after 4 years of no real winter I came to miss it, perhaps I'll come down for a visit after I win the big lottery and you don't have to feed me or pay for my gas...lol

now if i had the monies that 45 has I would be treating all my buddies........

You men up North of the border should consider wintering down here so you can ride more often. There's a Timmys in every town of 10,000 or more.

Troll

Ok...so here's a shot of one of the bluffs...looking from ground level....they all have names, but I have no idea what they are.

Yes Troll, here it is somewhat wider and deeper I am sure. (Memphis it is almost 500 yards wide in some places, and deep enough for some ocean going traffic.)

a lot of water volume flowing here.

Oh well enough of that, Now back to your regularly scheduled thread..

Pretty fall colors...

Very nice. Our leaves are pretty much gone already; the odd tree will have a few, and that's it. It got up to a whopping 48F yesterday; supposed to get to lo 50's today, and a bit warmer on Friday. I just might have to go for s ride, before snow-plowing season arrives>
