I had been fighting buffeting as well, built a set of lowers per the instructions on this site, did a 2300 mile road trip, problem solved.

Here's a page with instructions for just what you want to do:

Troll,
I think we have about the same size windscreen.  I am taller in my mid section (not a leggy guy) so I think my head is sticking up higher too.  I also have headroom issues in a fair amount of cars, this make are shopping fun.

I also was wondering if adding a GoldWing style windscreen vent would help.  I road with a friend who has a GL and he claimed opening the vent changed the airflow just enough to eliminate most of the buffering for him.

I had the same problem...seems to be solved with my Nomad windshield...

Did my first Iron Butt Ride on Friday, it was the Lake Michigan 1000 ride.  Put on 1103 miles in just a little over 19 hours.  The highlight of the trip was going over the Mackinac bridge, the winds we blowing a bit so traffic was reduced to just 30mph while going over the bridge.  I was so busy enjoying the views I was wishing we could go even slower!  While the ride was enjoyable it got a little boring at times and even with ear plugs in the exhaust noise and wind (helmet) buffeting were getting to me at the end.  Any ideas out there on how to reduce the wind buffeting?  Are lowers the answer?  On my bike with my wind screen I find at speeds below 60mph if I flip my visor open the buffeting and helmet noise are dramatically reduced but about 60 my open visor starts catching air and jerks my head around.
