Fuel Issue

It could also be the float valve (needle valve that opens and closes depending on float position) is shot or sticking. As there is not too many miles on the bike compared to its age, this is a possibility; the valve can stick or the seat can corrode or get a piece of junk stuck to it. Worth checking out, anyway. I find this a fair bit on older engines I work on.

Sounds like the float level is incorrect. Too high and the overflow in the bowl will do exactly as you described. Low mileage on an old bike is not necessarily a good thing...

Fuel Issue,

After purchasing my bike, I rode it home and pulled into mu garage and notice fuel leaking from the air filter area or behind.  I tried to turn the valve on the tank to several positions, but it just kept coming out.  I took of the air cleaner and looked into the carb, and noticed fuel coming out from the bowl.  Dose anyone know why this would occur.  The bike only has 4700 miles on it, and the carb seems to be in great shape, just fuel kept coming out.

I couldn't get it to stop so I took off the main line and drained the tank.  I called the previous owner and he told me that the fuel handle must be either in the on position or the reserve position.  If it's in the middle it will continue to flow, and keep coming out.  I guess I must have moved it a little when checking what position it was in, causing it to continue to flow when I stopped the bike.  I turned the knob back to the on position, attached the fuel line and put the air cleaner back together.    I took it for a ride and the leaking seem to stop, but tonight I rode it to work and when I stopped, I noticed a smaller amount dripping out of the black hose that comes out under the engine.  Does anyone have any idea why its dripping, or is this normal on the drifter.
