I use a Dowco Fast Trax #50143-00

I just flip it around from what most pics show(handle to the front instead of rear)and I only use the 2 outside magnetic flaps, I tuck the 3rd center flap underneath. The magnets are more than strong enough. It doesn't interfere with the gauge cluster or refueling and the clear top panel works great for phone, gps, whatever you want. It also comes with a clear case for a map that goes on the top of the bag. While I don't use it everyday(I have a trunk and saddle bags for that) it is invaluable when touring. Easy access to things one would want throughout the day, maps, phones, camera, meds, etc.

I have a windshield bag but it doesn't hold that much.  Spare pair of clear safety glasses, handy wipes, lens cleaner, pocket camera, and misc small stuff.  Just looking for a smaller tank bag that could hold a a simple map on top, bottle of water, small snack, pocket camera (I take a lot of photos).  Something that wouldn't interfere fuel stops.  I wouldn't use it every day, mostly it would be used on my all day drives in the summer.

I have a bungy net, a back seat, and a windshield bag... the bungy net is used on the lower part of the windshield above the headlight. I put my jacket, rain gear etc up there... gets some bugs, but it makes them look... vintage... any more vintage and they'd be called worn out... but that's another story. Works great. The windshield bag holds and protects smaller things and the bag on the backseat carries the rest of the stuff... I have some US Cavalry horse saddlebags I toss over the back seat and a bag on top.

Were I to ever tour again with a passenger, I have a bag/backpack that attaches to the backrest/sissy bar. All our touring is done on the goldwing, so this other stuff is usally when its just me riding someplace...

I have a 2 piece joe rocket magnetic. The top come off to be a back pack, and the bottom has all my rain gear in it. Don't use it much, but when I do, it's been really handy. Now that I have a back seat, I probably won't use it at all unless I really pack a lot of junk...

Recovering H-D owner...W-650 Cafe' No excuses...Ride it or sell it to someone who will!

I tried one a few years ago... got in the way and I didn't like it. But others really use them. With our console on the tank, a bag REALLY gets in the way. I do like having a small pocket or something available on the tank sometimes. But I don't tour on the drifter anymore, so I can keep it simple.

Thinking about getting a tank bag for my 1500 for my longer rideabouts.  Anyone out there using one or have any recommendations?

Thanks
