Problem down shifting

Well it seems the downshifting is back to normal. It may have been because the bike sat for quite a while. It was stored all winter and as soon as I got her out of storage and back on the road I had the problem with the torn retinas in my eyes and that added another 2 months of non riding. Now that I have had her out and about again she is shifting much better. I am assuming the plates may have been sticking but are now freed up. Going in on Tuesday to change the fluids!!

Uhhhh...it's hydraulic....might need some looking into. There is no adjustment, so you might be looking at a hydraulic actuator problem. I would start by checking the color and condition of the fluid in the M/cyl. Dot 4 brake fluid has a service life of about 4 years, after that it should be changed. I always change my fluid, on the cars and the bikes every other year. .

Troll just back from a quick 30 mile ride. After making the adjustment I will admit it shifted better but not completely smooth. I am now guessing that maybe the cluth cable has streched and might need to be adjusted at the lower end. Thanks for the tip and I will keep you posted.

Sounds like the clutch might be dragging, a little. How do you have your lever adjustment set? I keep mine at the #1 location, so I get full range from in to out.

Tight may not be the right word. How about very hard to get into gear. Almost too hard compared to up shifting. Yes I am familier with the correct speed for the downshift. Just does not feel right.

I am going to assume you are at the correct speed for downshifting... and I'm not sure what you mean by "tight". Mine has a problem getting and staying in first on a downshift. But I think my tendency to stomp the heal shifter may have bent something internally... just haven't gotten around to investigating further.

Am I the onlyh one who has ever experienced this problem? Not a single reply. I am surprised. I guess I will have to take it in for a diagnosis.

I am curious if any of you have had this happen to you. When down shifting it seems very tight to get into the lower gear. She seem to upshift with no problem. Any suggestions as what to look at? Could it be a clutch problem?
