Further updates (part #1)

- New aluminum tank emblems from Motone Customs. I only had to bend them slightly left-right and up-down to make them fit the curvature of the tank.

- Replaced the taillight with a black one from a J model. Over the last few months, I've removed as much of the chrome plastic as possible (not a fan) and in the meantime I've started to create a sort of hybrid between the J and R models. The black headlight bucket, taillight, and risers are all from J models.

- Replaced the license plate frame with a new stainless steel frame and removed the red (rear) and amber (front) side reflectors.

Now the dilemma is... to 'winshield' or not to 'windshield': that is the question.

The cold is setting in - we've just had our first two nights below freezing here - and a windshield would be helpful.

Any suggestions for a good windshield that can be found here in Europe (including the necessary hardware for installation)? Buying one from overseas could be too expensive due to shipping costs and customs duties.

Thanks Chief!

I just tried again but I still get the same error message, only in the Super Chief part of the gallery:
https://www.vulcandrifterriders.com/forum/index.php?action=gallery;cat=9

However, I seem to be able to see photos from other galleries without any problems.

Very Strange. I did update that portion of the forum and ran some checks. Not seeing any errors in our logs. I just logged in at the same level as you and had no problems accessing the category. You can only VIEW and comment on those pics.  Try refreshing your browser and try again... long shot. I will monitor the error logs, but at this point we don't see anything on our end which would cause this problem... sorry. Cheers.

Then I may not have all the necessary permissions (yet), as my status is still "Prospect".

@chief , would you be able to help, please?

Cheers!

You appear to have all the necessary permissions to view that portion of the Gallery. Are you able to see other areas?  I moved your level to MEMBER. See if that resolves the problem. If not, let me know and I will dive deeper into the problem. Cheers.

I need a little help, please.
I can't see any of the pictures in the Super Chief section. What did I do wrong?

https://www.vulcandrifterriders.com/forum/index.php?action=gallery;cat=9

I keep getting this:

An error has occurred

You do not have permission to full item detail page in this category

Do I need special permission to see those photos?

If they are pictures of naked Drifters, I swear, I turned 18.. more than 32 years ago now. ;D

Thank you

just remember that when you loosen the Stem head nut, you will need to take the weight of the bike off of the front wheel...keeps it from binding and getting off center.  So use a jack to lift the front of the bike up just enough to get the weight off the wheel...

Thank you!

I'll give it a try once the replacement part arrives.

OR Seedman

Remove handle bars and then the mounts.  You can leave the wire looms hanging and then loosen and remove top of the triple tree.  The cover will then just slide off.  Put everything back together in reverse.  Not really very hard.  Cover your tank with a couple of heavy towels so you can lay the handle bars down on it without scratching....

Grazie mittico68,

Sure, I'll post some pics as soon as I'm done with some of the small fixes I mentioned.
A new set of brake/clutch levers has just arrived. Other bits and pieces should arrive over the next few days.

Do you (or anyone else) have any advice on the best way to replace this dented upper fork cover?

Hi there,

Just wanted to say hi from Italy.

I literally just got myself a 2001 Drifter 1500 (black) with 17,400 miles on the clock - yes, miles not Kms, as one of the previous owners imported this old lady from the UK.

The bike is pretty much stock, with just some minor cosmetic things to fix: chipped RH tank badge (please see my other post in the 1500 section), a dented upped fork cover (a replacement is on its way from the US), the front brake lever is slightly bent (already ordered a new set of levers), plus some minor scratches on the exhaust fishtail.

I've just started riding again after a long break.
I used to ride a Yamaha Wild Star 1600, or Road Star for our our friends from North America.

Cheers
