Black exhaust

I had not thought of having the pipes ceramic coated and painting the heat shields. Something to think about.

Where I live, the local platers shy away from powder coating things that get hot. They recommend ceramic. I'd be looking at somewhere around $700 to do the whole system. I don't know if the look is worth that much to me.

There are paints available that can put up with the temps. I'm not sure how durable they would be though. I did use a good black on the handlebars, and they have not shown any signs of damage in the one season that I have been riding. I think the key was roughing the chrome and a good, etching primer.

There is always wrapping, too. A different look entirely.

I now have all winter to think about his and explore options. Thanks again for your input.

I concur: a black exhaust would look great.  I've wondered about having just the head pipes ceramic coated in black with the muffler and heat shields coated in  (non-ceramic high temp) gloss black - thinking (and I might be crazy) that the muffler and heat shields don't get anywhere near as hot as the header pipes.   I would have tested this theory out already if powder coating in this neck of the woods wasn't ridiculously expensive (recently was quoted $360 to coat two head pipes and a muffler).

I have a Cobra exhaust on my 1999 Drifter - chrome. I prefer the "black look". I can get this system coated in black ceramic for several hundred dollars, or replace it.

Does anyone here know of a black exhaust that will fit the Drifter?

Haven't seen any. I don't think any were ever made for Drifters. I do know of several who did the ceramic coating, A good ceramic coating apparently works really well.
