Pulled the old tank apart last night and the gasket is pretty pliable so I am going to go with Old Drifter and use some rtv.  Thanks for everyone'

It matches your photo and my memory of the part.

buy gasket material and cut your own. Get the gasoline gasket material.

It's pretty thick rubber with metal spacers to prevent over crushing . I would reuse the old one instead of a thinner material.

It says "Not Available".

Yeah, I saw that after I posted the link. I'll be it's been superseded.  I can't imagine them dropping such a large segment of the existing installed base

Bought the one on Ebay, now just have to put it on.  Hope the sending unit gasket survives as it looks to be no longer available.

I you can't find a new one, I'd put a thin coat of RTV on your old one to help ensure a good seal. Keep an eye on it.

There is one on Face Book for sale -- Drifter parts for sale, is the page.  It is definitely a 1500 from 1999 has the goose berry color and stripes.

As Troll said, you can use a '99 or '00 1500 Drifter tank. Other years won't work.

'99 and 2000 drifters should be the same. I don't believe that there are any classics that would work, unless they are fuel injected. The big problem is that the frame was changed in 2000 for the 2001 model year, and the tank was enlarged. The fuel filter on the later bikes is inside that tank, whereas on yours it outside. Carbed tanks just won't work, at all. Partzilla is an excellent place to reference part interchangeability. There is one '99 tank on eBay right now:   http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kawasaki-VN1500J-Drifter-Fuel-Gas-Tank-1999-Take-Off-/162345206564?epid=1836977417&hash=item25cc874324:g:N1wAAOSw2xRYbI3b&vxp=mtr

The easiest and surest way to find out is to use Partzilla's parts list for your year, get the part number for the tank, then you will get a list of other bikes that use the same tank.

For the 800 Drifter parts, such as the front fender, that are mechanically the same but are painted different colours for different years, have the same part number, but with a letter code for the colour. I assume it is the same for the 1500.

Ride safe, live long and prosper.

I am a new member and thanks for the add.  I am looking for a replacement fuel tank for my 1999 drifter 1500, I see some on Ebay.  Does anyone know what years will interchange?  I am seeing some that have an oval hole in addition to a round hole with a square flange and some only have one hole.  It also looks like there are some mounting differences between the years.  Thanks
