It's been kinda cold down here in GA, so we've been spending lots of time in the garage. Hubby's been playing with leather, and Blue is looking quite well after the addition of some home-made mud flaps, tool bag and floor board fringe. His Singh seat arrived and was installed without drama lol. The idea of an old Indian Feather-Face horn was intriguing to him, so he fabricated one from a pair of Hella horns he found at Pep Boys. The other one of the pair is mounted in the right side box. He found a used light bar from a Triumph and adapted it to fit Blue, repositioned the turn signals, and changed the indicator lenses from amber to clear. Additional 'just for looks' fuel, oil and reserve-pull caps were added to the tanks to continue the 'old school' illusion.
Part II, Princess update. The 2" lowering went well after some delay with Scootworks. Great part, 'nuf said. Problem now is I don't really care for the angle of the rear fender. I played with a cardboard mockup today to see if I could design a new set of mud flaps that would take care of that issue without heading for body work and paint. :o Might have it, I'll talk to the upholsterer who is making a new cover for my seat and see what we can come up with. Planning on a variegated tan/brown seat with cream trim, then cream mud flaps with tan/brown fringe.
Found grips that will work better with my small hands, and also found some cool ends for the grips to continue her Armed and Dangerous theme. :) Hee hee...

GREAT LOOKING upgrades you have there!! I love that horn. - where did you get the wings/cross cover on there? Did that come with the the horn, or was it a separate decorator piece you riveted on there?? I WANT ONE!!! ;D

hate to tell you but not a fan of the long extension of the fender, I would just have your leather person make a leather skirt for it with fringe to hide the angle, or wear high heel boots.
now bumperettes might draw the eye away from that ......just sayin'........

Hey GB! The horn set originally has red 'cages', he painted that one Engine Manifold Silver. The wings came from Michael's craft store in the jewelry section. He found the cross at Tandy Leather, it had a screw back on it that he ground off. The four wings are separate pieces. He JB Welded (is that really a verb?) those four pieces to the back of the cross, flat together on wax paper. When it dried, he positioned it on the painted horn cage and VERY CAREFULLY drilled for the smallest rivets available. The rivets had to be shortened so that they don't interfere with the horn diaphragm. Ask him how he knows :o. Here's the other horn in its original form, mounted in the side box.

Looking at the pics of Blue, I didn't mention the clutch and brake wraps he made, or the updating he did on the tank bib. I'm sure I missed something else. He's been a busy guy :)

Cold is a relative term, sorry RatMan! Actually, it was 7 degrees one morning, and school was closed for two days because of it!! We lived in NJ before we moved to GA. It's surprising to us the reaction they have down here to a few snowflakes...

I lived in CO Springs CO for 4 years after living in Goose Bay Labrador for 5 years, and winter temps in Goose Bay with the wind chill was normal in the -50 to 80* C ranges but after 40* it is the same so who cares....lol.....
Great to see the bikes coming together . Really like the white coke grips , fits the paint scheme beautifully . Nice seat as well . Glad there were no issues there ;)

Hubby says thanks for the compliment on the grips. If you even look at them wrong, they show dirt :o. Maybe we should have created room to carry a bottle of vinyl cleaner?? Still have leather left over to work with!

2beers picked up the caps at Pep Boys and the reserve pull is a painted knob from our old kitchen cabinets. Stick on velcro holds them in place :-). No secrets here lol !
Heres a couple of pics, the closeup is before the 'reserve' but you can see it on the other pic. When he's in the garage, something is always changing....its hard to keep up with the documentation!

I like the fill caps and knob. Makes the bike look great. SO, do you just have the gas cap by itself attached with velcro, or did you fab up some type of "neck" for the cap to mount to??

Well guys, 2beers is sitting here on the couch with me, and the "King of Facade" has more detail for you :).
The gas caps have to be gutted and ground down, then fitted with a piece of luan wood or similar material to build them up to the desired height. The wood can fit tight, or use some JB to make sure it adheres well to the inside of the cap. He painted the edge of the wood flat black for disguise. Take into consideration the height of the commercial grade velcro when you figure out your height. The velcro he used comes in a wide strip and was cut in a circle for good adhesion to the parts. The female velcro applies to the tank, the male velcro goes on the cap. Prep the area of painted surface to remove wax prior to adhering, he used GoofOff, but be careful with your paint!
2beers liked this mod because of the look, he also likes that it's non-damaging and can be reversed, and it didn't kill the bank book!

D1, that's a quick fix 'for now'. Big truck chrome shops have all different types of lug nut covers (pointed, round, metal, plastic, chrome...all sizes). I had a set laying around here and painted them black, they were a size that fit well. I really want cylinder shaped covers but just haven't found them yet.

You're TOO SLOW, D1. I got one today already!! Ordered it yesterday from my parts supplier. For a 1972 (I think) F-150. I wanted to see if it would work - looks great for about $7. I'm thinking of perhaps mounting some using a magnet. Any thoughts anyone??

The magnet idea can work, especially if you want to take the caps on and off the tank. Downsides, though... The surface of the tank isn't flat, and the velcro allowed some 'give' to the mounting. I'd be concerned that the paint could get scratched by a magnet. Depending on the magnet's strength, the cap could grow legs and walk away with a passerby. The velcro makes it difficult to remove, but is still a remove-to-stock mod if desired.
Funny magnet story. At some point years ago i had an industrial magnet weighed 5 lbs and was about the size of a softball, but horseshoe shaped. I was known for misplacing my keys in the house. So, i placed that magnet inside the kitchen cabinet and found that i could toss my keys up there on the way into the house. Worked great! But didn't make The Bride too happy.

I hadn't thought of the roundness of the tank.... But I had considered the paint scratching so I planned to try to put a piece of cloth or leather 'tween the magnet and the paint. I was going to try to get one of those rare-earth magnets which are pretty strong, so maybe it will work... On the other hand the velcro is starting to sound pretty easy....
I can't believe SWMBO didn't like the 5# magnet on the table....?!! :o

GB man story off my life , " day late and a dollar short . " I ordered a set of WLA style caps one even actually says " oil " on the cap . Paid $25 for the set . Know the question is do I leave them chrome or not . I'll have to wait and see when they arrive to do the famous stare for hours at them till a final decision is made :o . Being in the tire/owner business you must have these cyclinder covers laying around by the dozens . Why not share a set with 2beers for sharing the mod and throw me a set too there good fella ::) Heck I'll even pay the shipping ;)

Bride here's a pic of the set I bought . I like how the set up is on Mr. beer's with the chrome and black . I may end up doing mine black and painting the oil/gas lettering in the od green . We'll see ..... decisions, decisions

That's a good look, D1. How did you end up fastening them on? Did you go the velcro route?
GB .... yes sir , I used the velcro . Let me tell ya that stuff is strong . I like the fact that It's not a permanent fixture . The first attempt I didn't like the placement of the "dummy cap " so I had to move it a few inches . The backing of the velcro is strong , but comes off with out any harm or residue left on the paint (tank ) . I attempted to gut the cap , like 2 beers , but was unsuccessful . So all I did was remove the butterfly stay inside the cap added a piece of cork board to the desired height and walla project completed . I'm working on getting the sticker for the oil cap now . The original WLA sticker for this were yellow and red , by doing so I'm thinking this will add that much more charater to the bike .
