Working on some new tank logos. Here are the first two. The idea is the inside colors would match the tank colors.
I like it!
would look good on a green bike....

:( >:( ok that was uncalled for.....I ahve no control over mother nature.....at least I can go fishing in my lake...soon I'll have the ice shack out there.......
I think they look great. If it were mine, I would like the "by kawasaki" removed and maybe make the wide underline (where the kawasaki was) slightly narrower. Just my 2cw. Looks great how it is though.

I was thinking the same thing.
Nice job...My opinion, which is worth nothing, would be to stretch the length and increase the slant a little. I think the basic idea is wonderful, but it looks a little cobby to me. I had a local sign shop make mine, and we played with the slant and length for a while. As I look at mine now, I think we should have increases the slant just one more time

Interesting you should mention the stretch and the slant. This is actually the font used for the original Indian logo. I guess we are so used to seeing other adaptations that we forget what the original looked like.
Here are a few more
LOVE THEM!!!
That's sharp. Gotta love it.
I almost wish I didn't already have tank badges now!
One more
OUT FREAKIN STANDING!!!!
They are all outstanding.....
Jmbo see your getting pretty creative, nice job.Can you do one with a white background, black outline lettering

Ok, Jmbo, you did a magnificent job, so what's next...do I copy the graphic and take it to the sign guy? What do I do, now that perfection is so close at hand? See that empty spot on the tank?????

Here's the guy I use: http://www.stickeryou.com/2 They can print and shape cut a vinyl decal any size you want. They are very reasonable. Their labels are color safe and won't fade. I can send you a high resolution file and you can go to their website and set up a page for your labels. It's pretty easy to do.
OK...sounds like a deal. My email address is in my profile.
Go for it Troll! That's going to look fantastic on your KW,bud.
I DO BELIEVE!!!

Sorry, like others have said it is in the gallery section. If you would like to see it in person, I am just 15 minutes from Burlington. I think I saw your Drifter at Menard's last weekend!
Really cool work! Congratulations....

I'm working on it. I have a cast brass baseplate from a mid '50's Royal Enfield. There is a member of this forum who offered to CNC a brass plate insert with a Drifter logo in an Indian type face. I sent him a file and am waiting to hear if he can machine a plate according to the artwork. Here's is what I hope it will look lie.
JMBO that looks fantastic hope all pans out for your project . I've been pondering on these with drifter scribed in it of course .
That's pretty weird, D1... I had just seen the same badges on a google image search, and had the same thought!
Do you actually have a set? If they do, how do they fit the tank? That was my biggest obstacle in making up my 800 badges - tank fit.

GB no I don't have a set of these , but had them in my picture file for some time now . I don't have anyone around here to make a set for me . I'll keep an eye out to see if I can find one to match up with the tank . My vision is these would look relatively well on the tank .

Hi guys , the CNC guy was me, very sorry for being away. I've been remodeling an old house and it's finally ready, in fact moving last things and my laser in a few hours from now. The workshop has been stacked with gear til the house is finished so I've had no time for any shop work for a few months. The shop will now be about 15 feet from my back door so, happy days are here again, :- ). I'll make a point of getting a tank badge prototype and POW one for Driftr. My apologies guys.
I think I can say this without fear of being over ruled: You don't need to apologize for having a life and and for making yourself a new home. As I see it, nobody here is committed beyond a desire to belong to this group, so taking some time off to get something really important done is no reason to feel as though you need to explain anything. That said, congratulations on the new house and shop!
Sounds like you're going to have a sweet setup, Dubliner. Congratulations.
What they said!!
Dude you have to look after yourself and family before worrying about us, we can wait another couple of days, oh I have nothing on order...lol.....enjoy the new house......
Dubliner congratulations on the homestead , glad to hear you have completed some of the work because we all know like our toys were always adding or changing something LOL . Glad your back dude .
I am looking for a classic Warbonnet logo in full colors without the Indian Script. Now, if it was replaced with the Drifter Script, that would be cool.......could some place like sign-pro do that and if not, is there someone here who might be able to help me?
thanks
bikerbob5864, Zambini Bros. might be a good place to start. I have them on my bike and they look great and were easy to work with. http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Drifter/IMG_0759.jpg Maybe you could even talk them into not coloring them so you could do your own color scheme. http://www.zambinibros.com/
Ive been tinkering..., Her indoors thinks Im painting a dresser, but between coats, Ive been toying with Jims design, what dya think
looks pretty good, Dubliner. Would that be a decal- emblem?
It's a mock up of a tank badge for Jimbo.
I've looked at the Z-Bros stuff and like them, but not the cost! I just want the old time War bonnet decal in full colors, but don't want to be a poser.............or a "Pretendindian" Like the look, but................can't reconcile the Indian script. Kinda like wearing colors you don't rate........I'll check with our local Sign-Pro..........I know the Boss..........and she's a Biker herself........I like what your doing Dub!!.........Keep it up and maybe I'll have you make something for me........
I know this thread is tank logos, but I just put this on my trailer to match it up with my Drifter.

Nice, Larry. Well done.
Okay fellas, here's my problem.............I'm really digging what Dub is working on.........the Enfield/Drifter Brass Tank Emblem.....it is awesome looking!!!! Congrats to Jmbo and Dub for design and engineering however, I'm getting ready for a maiden voyage real soon. I don't see this Drifter badge being ready anytime soon, which is cool......so option two is a Warbonnet Tank Logo. Trouble with that is the only one that trips my trigger is the classic, full color style......with Indian script in the middle. I can't find anyone around here who can make me one without the script. The colors against the black backround on a 2002 Tank are too cool for S'cool.........but I don't want to be a poser riding a pretendian, yet I like the look...........this has become a real moral crisis for me!!!!, I mean......Meds have been upped......changed............sleep lost......dogs loosed on innocent neighbors,.............it's been hell!?!
I need advice........ :o :-[ ;D
Attach a photo of the Indian emblem you are refferencing. I think I canhelp you.
Okie-dokie, here goes...........I've got these at like 10"L X 4" W and I love the colors.........I think they would look great........but no one around here can help me........and most are never in their shops or answer their phones!!...............I hate to say it, but patience is NOT one of my best qualities.........therefore my people skills suffer.......,
sorry............but being less than honest about myself is something I can no longer do......Jmbo, thanks in advance for helping in this matter. I've found nothing but good people here so far........good brotherhood..........that's what it's about!!
Bob
Jmbo, These are on E-bay listed under "Indian Headress Motorcycle Gas Tank Decal" if you want a better view of them.
Thank You again for
what ever you can do
Bob, aka
"Honeybear"
Let me know if either of these works
If you like one of the designs, here is what the printed vinyl stickers look like. The are UV safe and they are semi-peminent but can be easily removed if necessary.
I like. How much for 2 pair? (one set for the bike, one set for the toolboxes...)
They do look nice guys . Jmbo when you get done with bikerbob and 49 would you be interested in making me this ?
I too would like a couple of those; I have a POW/MIA one on my Drifter but it is almost wore out. Would like to have one on both my bikes.
Jmbo, the top design is exactly what I've been wanting!!!! I'm dancing in the streets!!!! Where do I send the Money Order/Cashiers Check?
Bob
Come to think of it, I would like a pair of each of the designs. Both are so nice I just can't decide until I have them on the Bike to see. Damn! I hate decisions like this.........neither is bad, one is just the best!!!
Thanks again Jmbo
Bob

Here's my 2C worth, bikerbob: Do what you like. I know where you're coming from, not wanting to come across as a "poser". But here's the thing: no matter which choice you take, some will like it and some will not. When it comes down to it, they're not making payments on your bike, and they don't have to ride it! Do it like YOU like it.
Caveat: keep in mind when you go to sell it, SOMEBODY else has to like it enough to cough up the dough. Case in point: this bike has been for sale for a long time.

It's your ride to do what YOU want/like, Who cares what other people think or how they feel. Are they the ones throwing the leg over taking it down the road? Nope. This bike is an EXCELLENT TRIBUTE to the Inidan's of old. Bringing back that classic style, charm without the cost/maint cost! (Poor man's indian!) But seriously.. Do what you want to the bike.. I'm looking for a couple things Indian for my bike.. (plate for console lights) maybe even the fender light. I know it's not an indian... but WHO CARES! It's a SEXY BIKE!!!! But most of all.. SHE'S MINE!
What Milky said. You don't have to trick out your ride to please others; you trick it out to suit YOURSELF. The only thing that says "Indian" on mine is the fender light, and the instrument panel has a tag on it that says "Indian K Model" since the original panel was scratched up, it looks better that the original. I am, however, looking for one that says "Drifter" on it if anyone knows where to source one...
In a car /bike show last fall, a bunch of guys rolled in on vintage motorcycles, and when they were walking around, one guy looks at my Drifter and says (he didn't know it was mine) look at what someone did to a F#$%ing Kawasaki" Guess he thought the owner had put the fenders on it....one in every crowd.
49 buddy, not really what you want but a start.....
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tank-Dash-Bezel-decal-FOR-1999-1500-Kawasaki-Drifter-Indian-DRIFTER-text-/261262095248?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cd46f3390
Me I like to be different and so I have a Drifter, I am not marching to anyone else's drummer, I want to be my own person.......
Yea, I get what you guys are saying. If I couldn't find decals like I wanted, the one's I have with the script on them were going on......no matter what.
I just like the look of the Classic War Bonnet. Shoot..........there's a guy here in town that has a Honda late model of some kind with Indian Warbonnets on the tanks..........and it looks good!!!! I never dumped on the guy.....but when I asked him where he got them......he got all defensive and and said"they came on the bike!"
You could tell that he'd been dumped on many times before. Man, why do people have to be such jerks?!
DRIFTER and proud to fly my flag.
Just got no idea why you would make it something it's not.
It's my understanding that Kawasaki paid for the right to use the Fender style to whomever held the Indian copyrights when they started to manufacture the Drifter...............correct? In doing doing so, it can be reasonably assumed that they(Kawasaki) knew they were building a motorcycle that would replicate the overall style of the early Indians close enough to possibly cause infringement of copyright laws. Since this was obviously their purpose, adding things that enhance the illusion of an Indian-style motorcycle is not turning it into something it is not. Rather, I would argue that it is paying tribute to a time and style gone by on a technically relevant platform. Besides...............I think the War Bonnets are just too cool for S'Kool!!! baby!!!!!!.................................
Besides...................Mama likes'em............and if Mama ain't happy...............ain't nobody happy!!!!.................. ;) ;D
This is a debate that has been going on since 1999! The bike was designed and originally built before the resurrection of the Indian brand. Kaw did indeed pay to use the fenders. It is a tribute bike.
Over the many years between 1953 and 1999 many bikes tried to do the same thing. I have seen Harleys with Indian/American Indian stuff on it. Kiwi still makes bikes that look like the originals. Kawasaki and the Cobra team did a fine job!
I think it will be more difficult to keep to the tribute line since Polaris has and will sell a bunch more Indian brand bikes. BUT! one of the things that makes us different is we are DIFFERENT. We don't have the same bike as the herd that rumbles by... and what we do with our ride is entirely individual. There will be groups who like this and dislike that... but mutual respect still underlies it all. The great thing about Drifters... you rarely find two just alike!
So, do what makes you feel good and while I might not want to do it with my bike - I respect your choices!
bikerbob (and Chief): I understand exactly what you are saying. The Drifter IS an Indian tribute or Indian clone bike. That's what it was from the beginning. Like Chief said, it was born in a time when "real" Indians were no longer built. I don't see how putting an Indian bonnet (if you like it), or an Indian fender light (if you like it) or an Indian script tank emblem (if you like it) or WHATEVER, it trying to "make it something it's not". No different than if you put cadillac tail lights, or ford turn signals, or a harley tool box, or paint it to look like patio bricks (I do wish I had saved a picture of THAT one..). It's your bike, your creation to make it look like you want.
bikerbob: Have you looked at the zambini brothers tank emblems. If I recall, they have multi-colored war-bonnet style tank badges. Kind of expensive, but heck, what isn't?
Polaris Indian is going to make using the original warbonnet logo a bit less appealing. Fortunately, there are plenty of similar but not the same decals out there for those who really want the warbonnet look... like Zambini.

My thoughts exactly. I'm much likely to want to indianize
my drifter now that Indian is "alive" again.
I like the Zambini work and put those on my bike. I call it what it is when asked, it is a Drifter, a tribute to the Indian, made by Kawasaki under license from Indian. Most of the time, when someone says "nice Indian" I just say, thank you.
Watchout now that Polaris owns Undian. They also own the logo and the rights to it. Buy your Indian based stickers and emblems while you can.

As you may know we used to sell the Indian head fender lights. But when Kings Mtn bought Indian, the manufacturer had to pay a royalty for those, so they stopped making them. I suspect with Polaris' deep pockets they may start trying to curb other things as well... like the original warbonnet. BUT, you will likely still be able to get these things from authorized resellers.

You mentioned the magic words - royalties and authorized resellers. I spend over 40 years in the licensed product business. Both mean one thing CHA-CHING! Things will cost more and have more limited availability. Been there done that!
Jmbo...........did you have someone who can/is going to make those logos we talked about.............?Just curious.........
Bob
Just read an article where Polaris/IMI went after a small mfgr called Crazy Horse Motorcycles whose tank emblem was a War bonnet for copyright infringement. Sent them a nice cease and desist letter..........before a summons to civil court! Guess it's already started. I seriously doubt they would go after individuals.........they're more worried about being hijacked on a larger scale.

They are only interested in people making money from the symbols. No way they could ever go after every individual.
Thanks, Jmbo...................Yea, it would be impossible to go after the individual for sure, but you're right about those selling quantities for profit. That could get to be a real furball. Right now they're being nice with just a Cease&Desist Letter from the Lawyers which will stop 90%, I'm sure. Can't blame them at all. They paid for the rights to the name and the look........it's theirs by law.
The latest tank logo. No one can dispute the heritage of this one.
If you are selling those.... I would like more information on the size of it.
Ya HOOOOO!
That is definitely a nice decal. However I'm a big fan of the original, hope I can find one, I've got two Classic badges that I would like to get rid of also.
Oh sure!!!..........Make something else so cool I can't resist. Now I have to buy another Drifter to put new decals on. Man!!!!!............I can't win!!!!!!! :P
I'm thinking mine will go on the air cleaner.
Where does one find those air cleaner covers anyway? I've seen some, but they say they don't fit FI Models, hence my frustration.
Not sure. My PO bought them. They are nice. The black part is solid cast aluminum.

I want this one on my bike! we can make the transition ourselves and star branding our bikes with the name "super chief drifter"....and maybe even have tank emblems etc, with the name on our bikes post lots of pictures in nice places....maybe we might call the attention from kawasaki to bring the project back to life, who knows.
I had my tank painted since it had some small dents around the gas cap. The badges had already been removed by the original owner and I could not find the the oem stripes. Didn't look bad just a little too plain for my tastes. I thought about getting the war bonnet decals with the drifter script in them and then ran across the ones you see in the photo on ebay and thought I would give them a try. Not sure how well they will hold up but certainly a little different and still an off shoot from some of the vintage Indian logos.

bike looks really nice, but is it a deep purple, or black, because in the picture of the tank it has a purple hue to it or I am needing to get back on my meds.....
It's black - the light is playing a bit of a trick - plus the photos are from my cell phone.
Looks great, Racin.
Great look; be careful not to spill gasoline on them; makes the ink run on some decals.
Never thought of that! Good point I will be careful!
Well gentlemen and ladies, things finally settled down here and i had some shop time yesterday. Getting raised very small letters is harder than I thought. I need to look into other metals perhaps, or cold casting maybe. Anyway, I'll keep at it and get something I'd be happy with and maybe you will be too.
That looks good, Dubliner! That looks a lot like what I ended up with on my tank emblem, for the "insert" I used. I wanted raised letters, but the machine shop said it would be very difficult / impossible to cut some of the letter outlines as small as the radii were, so I opted for the outline, much like yours.
However, your badge gives me some new ideas for the next one. One of those "Duh" moments - why don't I just....
Wow! I like both those ideas!
GB when your finished making the new emblems , I'll be happy to take these ones of your hands . Think these will look great on the 1500 with that red and black ;) Whatcha say ::)
I'll need to think about that one.... any idea how much time I had in those??

With the effort , ( witch shows ) I'm sure it wasn't easy and took some thought process . Still say they'll look awesome with that black and red on my 1500 ... ;D :D ;)
