I agree, Chief. There are a LOT more good cops vs bad cops; we do hear more about the "bad cops" more, because that sells news. That being said, those in charge of the confiscation in High River knew they were doing the wrong thing; otherwise they would not have sent ALL the RCMP stationed in High River to different areas before they started "doing the right thing." And telling a homeowner the reason they kicked down interior passage doors that don't even lock "because nothing feels as good as kicking down a door" is clearly abusing their power. THAT being said, why are the RCMP (rhetorical question here) stonewalling the investigation in to these allegations? Only they can answer that question. As a responsible forearms owner, it is discouraging to hear of people doing the right thing and being penalized for it.
{Sigh} and I do rant on....lol
And all this being said, I am not "running down" the RCMP as a whole; just those who perpetrated these injustices on people who had already lost enough. Just to clarify......
Not to go too far afield... I come from an LEO family, did some of that work myself. My Dad was a Chief of Police, after I left for the Navy. Most cops do a good job, but there are some who don't. I've run into my share of both kinds. When you deal with the worst of society everyday of your working life, you can easily get into a mindset where you think everyone is the same. That can lead to abuses. The real danger is when cops stop thinking of themselves as part of the community. Once we did away with "beat" cops, we started losing that sense of community. The US vs THEM mentality sets in... on both sides.
Honestly, knowing what I know about police forces of the 60's and 70's, I'd say they have gotten much, much, better as a whole over the years. Now that we have 24/7 news cycles we here all the dirt, all the time. Good news is rarely considered "news".I believe the announcer called is a "stunning abuse of power".... Sounds like this abuse of power is on the rise these days. Is bad law enforcement on the rise these days, or do we just hear more about it because of increased social media? Seems to me it's on the rise everywhere.
I did follow that quiet close and it was not really impressive.......
This is a long (43 minute) video, but definitely worth watching. This took place in 2013 during the floods.
After watching this what country and what group did it remind you of?
