Thanks for the info and the offers of assistance, there were certainly a couple of moments that I could have used some.  In the end the Osprey brackets, ebay saddlebags, boots and jacket all showed up in Grand Junction at the right moment and were successfully installed.

The seller was a complete class act and the bike was as nice as advertised and he had changed the oil and filled the gas tank on his own and declined my offer to cover the expense as well as picking me up at the airport.

Had a great ride home through Jackson, Virginia City and then dropping down to catch route 12 along the Lochsa up to Coeur d A'lene to meet up with the nephews for dinner and then west to Sequim the following morning.

Ended up at 1740 miles and not a moment of discomfort so I'm pretty happy with the purchase.

I did experience some helmet buffet when I was hauling the mail in a cross wind and have added some lowers.

I rode back to Idaho this past weekend "780 mi. roundtrip" to see if they helped and they were a nice improvement.

Currently experimenting with a thing or two, backrest etc.   I like the look of the bike bare and am building everything to be easily removed and installed for road trips.

Prior to buying this bike online I hadn't ever seen a Drifter and I've been very happy with the entire experience and am looking forward to putting some miles on this one starting with a trip down 395 to San Diego in a few weeks.    Thanks again everyone, Denny

Welcome, Your trip should take you about three days, 2 nights to make it back from Colorado. It took me two days to go from Ogden, Ut.(DI-2011) to Salem, Or. riding around 550 miles in a day. which makes the last day an easy ride home. Glad to see another Drifter making here to the Northwest, where riding in the rain is a must.

Thanks Dan, It sounds like the time table is going to be too tight as I won't have an address to ship to or confirmation on the brackets until things open up tomorrow.

If your bored tomorrow around noon you might give me a ring at 360-460-7635 and if I have things sorted out and you have time to box em up it might work.

Boxing and shipping isn't a favorite pasttime of mine and if your busy getting ready for your trip we can re-visit it after I get home and have some time to decide what I want to do for accessories.  Thanks again Denny

Denny the mounts I have on my bike are factory but I also have osprey mounts and they line up exact with no modification to the frame on our bike. You would have no problem using them on the OEM bags.

I can in fact do paypal if you want my bags but I must tell you I myself am going to be out of town from the 12th to the 17th of July. So it may present a problem getting the bags to you on time unless I shipped them out tomorrow. In any event the Osprey mounts will work for you with no problem.

Dan that's a great offer on the bags and I have a couple of questions. Are the supports that are shown in your photo's the Osprey's ?  And if they are does it take much in the way of time or tools to install them ?

I'll call Osprey tomorrow and if that works out would you be willing to mail those bags to Denver or Salt Lake?  I have work related business addresses that would receive them in either town.

If this comes together Paypal is the easiest way for me to settle up, let me know your thoughts on that and I'd sure like to know the maker of that small rack on your rear fender.

I know you said you were purchasing inexpensive bags so how about a set of OEM Kawasaki black Ranger II studded bags instead? I have a set that I will sell for $235.00. These sold for over $500.00
They are perfect for your 1500 drifter. I have them on mine and you can see pictures of my 1500 drifter under the name Marshalldoll.

Welcome and congrats! I've got Auburn slant bags on my Drifter and they are about 13" long, 10" tall and about 6" deep. Not huge, but big enough for me if I'm traveling solo.

I bought my Drifter a week before my wife and I took it on a 3300 mile road trip. All I really did was check fluids, tires, fasteners, plugs, and air filter and we rolled. I did add a windshield though. 2 of the handiest things I added for our trip was a mag-mount tank bag and a cigarette lighter adapter that plugs into my battery tender plug so I could keep my phone charged.

I purchased an 04 1500 in Colorado and am flying down from Washington State to ride it home.

The bike is very stock and has 7000 miles and I'm trying to sort out a couple of things.

I can do a superlight trip staying in motels but still need to carry a certain amount of raingear etc. and would like to take along a few luxury items and extend my ride home by a few days and miles.

I'm planning on calling Osprey monday morning and purchasing a set of thier Drifter saddlebag supports.

Assuming they are available in time. "I'm leaving in 12 days" I would like to buy a cheap set of bags to use for the ride home.

If someone would pm or post the approximate size and style "slant?" of bag that would fit a bike with stock mufflers, solo seat etc. that would be helpful.

Because I'm looking at pretty inexpensive bags I'm OK with some cutting/drilling and zip tying to mount them on the Osprey support rack and if they aren't a perfect proportion thats OK I'm just hoping to get something workable that won't damage the finish or fender.

Thanks for any help, I'm picking the bike up in Grand Junction and can go through Denver or Salt Lake if there are any opinions as to route, possible dealers or things I should check on the bike before I leave I'd like to hear them. Denny in Sequim, Wa.
