Ok, may be coincidental problems... strong spark, good fuel... you should be good... but obviously not... so check the clutch switch and kickstand switch connections.

I've had batteries that tested good but failed under load... ie would turn the starter but not start the bike, so give that a look...

thanks for the quick reply- kill switch in correct position , bike in neutral.   Robust spark as engine cranks but does not fire.  Plenty of good fuel.   Last year i had a kick stand switch problem and i was able to fix those itty bitty leads at the switch itself- close quarter soldering!  They check out visually but i have not dug deep enough into the shop manual to confirm a continuity test.

Bike gave zero indication of any starting/running problem til i left it on 'P' that Fri Night

I assume you have checked the battery to ensure its good under load.   Kill switch is in correct position, bike in neutral, correct?

What happens when you turn on the key? What happens when you hit the start button?

well it finally happened.  Left my 2000 Driftr ignition in 'P' for a weekend.   dead on Monday.  So i threw on an old charger i had sitting in my camper.   Only i failed to remember that that charger has a 30 amp "start" setting. Of course that was the setting it was on for an hour!   Now i think i may have done this before and everything went fine but not now.   I have a PC III on board.  So the question:   given that i have a fully charged battery and good spark , what is my next trouble shooting option?
Nearest mechanic is 50 miles from me, so i'd like to keep wrenching here at the cabin.

thanks
