Ah hah! Kuryakin hypercharger. How far does that stick out? Stock, there is a round low profile cover on each side. The right side houses all the idle control gear and the plumbing for the emission controls, the left side is the real intake, with a duct running between the cylinders to connect them. One of the things I like the most about the design, after 40 years of H-D, is that I don't have the air cleaner against my right knee.

I have noticed that many drifter owners have this round chrome thing on the left side of their bike (clutch side). It almost looks like an air filter of some sort. Needless to say I don't have said chrome thing. Looking at the space where said thing would be placed I see nothing that would make it useful.

What is that?

I think what you are talking about is an aftermarket crankcase breather. Normally the c/case fumes are routed back to the air intake, to be "re-burned" when you Mod the air cleaner,that hose needs to be rerouted [to a filter is best]. And it helps cut noise. {If} someone else did the air cleaner mod you likely do not know where they put it, or if they did.

Can you post a picture or the left side of the bike, and the right side air filter that you do have?

Yeah if you get a baseplate that works with the drifter, you can mount anything on the right and leave the left side as is... Look at the air box mods in the mods/tips section of the website.

You suppose I could install one on the right side and leave the stock set up on the left though? I mean with some modifying or removing the base plate or something?

The baseplate is the problem for installing any of those things. Also, you gotta remember if you open up the right side, you will effectively make the left side redundant... not enough suction for anything much to come from the left side IMHO... could be wrong!

Thats interesting Chief,
I was wondering about installing an air kit and wondered if I would be able to put one on each side for dual air intakes, lol.
I really want to replace the stock cover and assembly with one of those gothic looking air filter housing that looks like a weapon, it comes to a sharp point and has a 90 degree bend off the bike so the point faces forward.

I thought besides maybe being in the way it would look awesome and if there was a way to actually use them both and have the bike tuned for it there might be a power gain.

Stock, Drifters have a left side air box and an identical right side. Air actually is provided  from the left side through a duct to the right side where its delivered to the engine. Often people remove the left side cover and ductwork and install a right side filter... that's likely what's happened with yours.
