The fan on the drifter works in a very limited range and will should not come on very often - unless you are in a very hot environment. I worried about it when I first got the drifter... didn't think it was working. But, it was and I have left it alone since.

The thermostat opens and closes to keep the coolant within operating range. The thermostat starts opening at 136-144F (58-62C) and is fully open at about 167F (75C).

The fan doesn't come on until the coolant reaches between 212 and 230F(100-110C) and it will go off again at between 207-217(97-103C).

The point is to keep the engine at the right temp for best performance.

Sorry, mis-read what you were trying to do. The computer has no part in this circuit. The fan is a separate system. I would trace the wiring up to the fan relay ans connect there, since the plug on the bottom of the radiator is exposed to lots of road crud and water. Behind the right side cover is a much more friendly environment  for a tap in connector. The last thing you want to do is open the weatherproof insulation down where elements can start a corrosion process.

My fan hardly ever comes on. We had 100+ deg temps here, last week and it only came on once while I was sitting at a light. In answer to the other post... don't tap into the single pole switch, it's the temp sensor for the computer. I know it works, cause it does come on, but not a lot. 212 Deg. F takes awhile to get to.

troll,

does your fan kick on alot ?

the fan sensor is the larger one ( the 2 pole ) on the right side and the coolant sensor is single on the left.....so i can t-tap both on the fan sensor and add a switch...the ecm will be ok with that ?

The fan switch is a simple 2 pole that is located in the bottom of the radiator. all you need do is jump across the two wires to tun on the coolant fan.  According to the service manual, the fan doesn't come on until 100 Deg.  C, or 212 F.

is there an easy way to jump the sensor to make an over ride switch for the fan....everything seems fine but i'm paranoid about electric fans....it was easy on my cavalcade.....it came on fine last year but i haven't heard this year yet...then again..haven't been out alot either.
