I ordered a set of hard krome american classics (they come with tips) for my 2001 drifter 800 and they sound incredible!  Very beefy, deep sound and loud!  The bike goes now, no restrictions.  They extend to the end of the bike and look very classy.  I was able to get a good deal on the brand new pipes on e-bay, ended up paying 349.00 with free shipping, not sure if that vendor has anymore in stock.  I've seen them for as much at 500 bucks on other sites.  This price I paid was straight up and not an auctioned price.

Yes, I'm sure the previous owner rejetted the carb, as the bike came with all the receipts for the work he had done. The vance and hines are nice, and they have removable baffles, not that they need to be removed, as it sounds perfect the way it is. Maybe I should try removing the baffles just to hear what that sounds like. I would have to remove the tips first, and they were a b*&ch to put on. I only had to put on one wrap of very thin sheet metal for them to fit tight, and they clamped together with no leaks at all, just like they were made for it. Free is my favorite price!

I've been thinking about doing what you've described for a while. I have some B&G straight pipes that I was gonna cut up and have welded to the headers and then just heat wrap em' but your saying you just clamped the the pipes together? And are you sure that the previous owner re-jetted? Do you have a photo of your bike? Thanks

I cut my muffler off and welded the B&G pipes up to the headers and then heat wrapped em' and it sound goooooood!!! Feels/sounds like a completely different bike and I didn't have to re-jet...so i'm pretty stoked on this being that I've been tempted to shell out mucho denero for a set of hard kromes so many times.

I have a set of vance and hines long shots on my 800 drifter. I had a set of stock pipes for my wifes 1100 sabre sitting around, and someone on craigslist was looking to trade his new longshots for a set of stock pipes for his sabre because he didnt like "the noise". I cut my muffler off where it mates to the headpipes, wrapped some shimstock around the stock headpipe tubes and slipped on the longshots. I used the stock clamps from the longshots and had to make a hanger strap to attach the longshots bracket to the drifter, and then had to slip a stainless hoseclamp through the top heatsheild mount [It blends so well you wont notice]. They sound a lot better than the stock muffler that the previous owner had drilled out, and the diameter is the same as the stock heatsheilds. Since they were "free" I bought the vance and hines viper tips to direct the exaust soot away from the rear fender. The previous owner had already rejetted the carb so it was all done at that point. they look like they came that way, and they extend to the end of the fender.

FYI - like the 1500, any pipes made for the 800 CLASSIC will fit the 800 drifter with the addition of the right rear footpeg bracket.

After numerous phone calls to large retail outlest  found a set of Hard Krome's at Dennis Kirk, the last one in stock.   They now list them as not available anymore.  Should have them this week !!!!

I don't know of any for the 800, natively. I expect you can mod some in the same fashion as the 1500.

Looking for a dual aftermarket exhaust that extends to the end of the bike.  Any suggestions?
