Yamaha Motor University, a training division for Yamaha dealership personnel, has collaborated with Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Birmingham, Alabama, in the creation of a series of custom-built circuit boards. These circuit boards are based on the YZF-R3 motorcycle's starting system.

The boards are interactive and were built in-house at Yamaha's headquarters in Kennesaw, Georgia. They'll be used in Barber Museum's youth education program, including school field trips and the Barber Design Camp. Barber's education program is led by Dr. Liz Johnson.

"We're thrilled to collaborate with Yamaha to bring its technical expertise directly into our program here at Barber," said Dr. Johnson. "This new module will not only enrich the learning experiences we offer but also open doors to career pathways in STEM and the motorsports industry. These opportunities allow us to show generations to come that the same knowledge and skills they're building here and in their classrooms are the very ones driving the future."

The circuit boards will allow hands-on experiential learning at the museum and will help teach diagnosing electrical problems and the connection between motorsports and STEM.

"Yamaha Motor University is proud to team-up with the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum to launch this hands-on STEM lab," said YMU manager John Grubb. "Modeled after our YZF-R3 motorcycle's starting system, these boards will provide visiting students an engaging way to learn about electrical circuits using a real-world motorsports application."

The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum is located within Barber Motorsports Park. The museum hosts regular events and includes the Barber Advanced Design Center workspace dedicated to design exploration. The museum consists of five floors housing 1,800 motorcycles, 150-plus automobiles, and more. From Oct. 1 to March 31, the museum is open Monday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. From April 1 to Sept. 30, the museum is open an extra hour, closing at 6 p.m. Visit the Barber Museum website for ticket information.
