Speedo probs on 99 Drifter 1500...

Cable run speedo - the odometer and trip depends upon the same cable. I am far from expert on 800's but assume it works like the mechanical speedos I am familiar with.

You removed and inspected the cable?

Remove the speedo connection at the front, raise the rear tire and spin it.. see if the cable end actually turns at the front.

If it does, you know its properly engaged at the rear and the cable isn't broken. You can assume its something with the connector/cable/speedo housing at the speedo. It has to be properly engaged to run the speedo.

If it doesn't you need to inspect the gear housing, cable and speedo connections.

Thanks for the reply...  Checked everything and it all seems securely attached and inspected the cable and didnt find any breaks....  Took the bike out for a ride and on top of what started, now the odometer and trip odometer have shut down....  Everything else works....fuel gauge, indicator lights, back light...

First thing to do is make sure everything is securely attached. It was working BEFORE you did anything is that correct? The 99 has a cable you will need to ensure its firmly and securely attached and connected at both ends. Also ensure the cable is not broken.

Was recently detailing my Drifter and took the 3 allen screws loose on the instrument cluster to wipe everything down, upon riding the bike after getting it all put back together I noticed my speedometer doesnt work.  Everything went uneventfull and was re assembled without incident.  All the lights, fuel gauge, and odometer all work fine just no response from the speedometer....

Anyone else ever run across this, and does anyone have any recomendations on things to check or troubleshoot?
