Fuel leak thru keyhole of Petrol Cap

I see an occasional leak from the keyhole on my 99's cap and will look into this.  I think there's something broken with the tumbler on mine - it works just fine but the key is really wobbly when inserting.

As a side note......

I have a spare cap from a different year Drifter - not sure which one - or it might be from another Vulcan - can't recall as I came with some other Drifter parts I picked up on eBay. I tried swapping the key tumbler from the 99 into the other cap but the caps are slightly different - don't remember how different off the top of my head but enough that made me stick with the original setup even though the key insertion is wonky.  Partzilla shows the 99 cap fitting several Vulcan, and other, models but only 99/00 Drifters.  I'm pretty sure the newer cap would fit and work fine (all key cut issues aside) but there's something different with the internals.

If you have fuel welling in the recess around the petrol cap, first determine if it came out of the keyhole - re-fill to recommended level, ride and watch to see if that is where it starts from.

If it is coming thru the key hole, then remove petrol cap, flip over and remove the two screws and wriggle the housing free. You will see the circular arse end of the lock cylinder with a little mesa sticking up, with a silver ring around it. Pluck ring off and use a pair of pliers to grip the mesa and wiggle out the first of two little grey pucks. Prise out the little O ring above the second puck. If it looks more like a flat rubber band instead of an O ring, then you have found the problem.

I thing mine occured because I had a cut down key residing in the key hole.

Chief, I couldn't access the Mod entry to update it.

I tested all the other options before lucking onto this tight little hidden fucker.
