production numbers

At some point in the past, in our quest to find out...  we were told the numbers don't necessarily tell you how many were actually produced. There were different explanations... they included all vulcans, they numbered by year, they include all models, etc. We can never get a straight answer from Kaw.

As Troll says - 99/00 - would be "J" models; 01 forward are "R"; 800's are "E" .

Part of the problem... does the vin mean its the 99th 2001 1500 Drifter? the 99th 1500 for all years? the 99th 2001 Vulcan for all models? I don't know and Kaw isn't telling us. I know the first bunch of 99's had vin numbers which everyone believed meant the production number...

Its worth a look. Hell, its better than we have had up until now!

Well, if it helps, my '01 was built in July of 2000 and the vin ends with 00099 The VN designation would be all the vulcans, but the R designation would be unique to the drifter.....

We might have something of an answer here on this forum.    Didn't we all have to put in our VINs when we registered?  If so, here is the largest sampling of Drifter VINs.

I understand that all the VIN tells you is what number Vulcan it is, not necessarily what Drifter; however, there may be an algorithm that would surface if we start looking at the available VINs.  For example, my 2004 Drifter 1500 VIN ends in 0055; if all the others end in 0 or 5, then we should have a good handle on how many were made by figuring out what the highest VIN is.   Or maybe it's every 3, or every 17.

Or roughly.... heck, I don't know... seems like if that hasn't been tried, we should exhaust what we can figure out before throwing up our hands.

Forget about it. We've been seeking that info since 1999! Even Denny Berg can't get any info out of Kaw. I have no clue why.

Does anyone know production numbers for each year on the 1500 and 800 drifters?  Curious to know how many were made.
