Oil Change - 2.9L?

My current chain has less than 2000 miles on it so I was planning on keeping my current chain.  If I had know last year what I know now I would have installed the different sprockets last year when I replaced the chain and sprockets.

Well I guess as long at the bike is level, oil in in the middle of the sight I am good to go. I did let it sit for over 30 minutes and it didn't get any higher or lower in the level.  I guess on the this weekends project...new sprockets front and rear going with 18/39 combo.

The manual spec is 2.9L with a new filter (for all 800's since 2000) - bike level after 5 minutes middle of the window.

I never measure mine, I always ensure the bike is level and use the sight glass.

Yes I have the bike level on a lift (not on the kick stand) and I used the recommended filter.  Depending on where you find you information on the internet there are some people stating the Vulcan Classic 800 (not the Drifter) is a 3.2L not 2.9L.

When in doubt I will stick by the oilsite to determine if I have enough oil in the engine.

Is the bike level... not on kickstand!? Did you use the recommended oil filter?  2.9L is the spec.

Did my first oil change today.  The manual says 2.9L when changing the oil filter (who doesn't change their filter when changing the oil).  So I put in approximately 2.9L, ran the engine on idle for about 30 seconds and let her sit on the bike rack for about 15 min,  checked the oil sight and it's barely at the low mark.  Waited 15 more minutes and still barely on low.  I ended putting in about 3.4L in before the level was half way between low and full.  Does this sound right?  Is the manual wrong?
