Thanks Chief!  LOL, yeah, that was a typo.  I meant to say 2002.

Yes, it is definitely in neutral on the occasions that it has happened.  I'll take a look there.

First, the last year they made Drifters was 2006. I assume you mistyped the year. All I can tell you about the cut-out problem, is to check the connectors on the handlebars and at the kickstand end. Make sure the bike is actually in neutral and see if that helps.

'02 Vulcan Drifter 1500

I have a 2012 Drifter 1500 with only 3800 miles on it.

Recently, but not consistently, I have been encountering a minor issue and wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions.

I am aware that as a safety measure, if the kickstand is down and the bike is idling and then put into gear, the kickstand switch will cause the engine to shut off.

However, I have been having an issue now and then when I come to bring my bike to a parking position, put the kickstand down WHILE IN NEUTRAL, the engine will cut out.  The reason for this I am not sure.  I initially thought that perhaps the switch was a bit sticky and that might cause this, but that would only be if I tried to put the bike into gear with the kickstand UP and let out the clutch.  Also, since the bike has all original stock parts, but with only 3800 miles on it, they are for the most part in like-new condition.

While I know this is a minor inconvenience, as it is not affecting my riding the bike, I would like to find out the reason for this and resolve it.

Anyone have any ideas or has anyone heard of this issue occurring before?  Everything post I have tracked down online only deal  with an issue of the engine dying because of a faulty kickstand switch when putting the bike in gear.  Not simply putting the kickstand down with the bike in Neutral.

Any advice is appreciated!
