Hope this is OK to post.  I ordered the Kawasaki bar to re-locate the retifier under the radiator.   The set of Roadhouse Dooley's I just received came with a relocation bar so I will not need it.  Send me an e-mail if interested.   What I paid below.

Thanks so much, I just could not find it.

Ran into a bump with the grips that I had overlooked.
It's no big deal but the control housing and throttle cable housing on the throttle side of the bike has a little tab that sits in a hole drilled on the handlebars where it goes.

These grips are about 1/2" shorter overall than the ones I had so when I go to put the housing on it will not close or seat properly as the tab hits the bars.

I am going to drill a small hole in the bars tomorrow to accomodate the tab and then it will seat properly.
I just wanted to add that in case someone else decided to do this.
It's a small thing that is easily fixed but I hadnt expected it and when I went to put it all together I discovered it.

When I posted earlier I had checked that the grips would fit the bars and that I could do without the throttle sleeve but I didnt bolt the housing back up, once I hooked up the throttle cable and saw it would work I just pulled it back apart and painted the grips.

Anyway thats it for the grips, I just needed to drill a small hole in the bars and remove the throttle sleeve for them to work.

ah, ok thanks.
Hey Chief wheres the mod about moving that rectifier thing by the driveshaft to the front of the bike?
I cant seem to find it and I would like to do that.
Thanks,
Lump

If you didn't have to unscrew anything, you didn't have oem grips.

So grips came today.
Check it out.
I ordered them from China maybe 5 days ago I guess.
Today I look outside and an asian guy in a black car pulls up to my door and drops off the package, not the post office.
I thought that was wierd.
They took less than a week to get here and cost 17.11 with shipping from China, unreal.

Anyway when the grips came first thing I noticed was that the inside diameter was the same on each grip unlike the grips I took that had the throttle side a ittle larger to fit the sleeve.

So at first I thought, great, they dont fit and I am going to have to send these back now.

Then not having ever looked into what the throttle controls looked like I decided to take apart the housing.
Turns out that the grips have the same notches that the sleeve has on it, I disconnected the throttle sleeve, and connected the cables to the actual grip and tada, fits perfectly!!

I am psyched, for less than 20.00 I got the grips I wanted and they fit.
Like I said in the original post, I was going to buy these in black, but the only ones I could find in 1" were 140.00 or more.

I found some chrome ones for $30.00 but thought I will just wait, then I happened to find these for 17.00 shipped and took a chance.

They are accepting a first coat of paint right now and already look stellar.

By this afternoon they will be done and tomorrow I will put them back on the bike and be done.
I am waiting for a headlight visor to arrive and that I think is the last piece I have to paint and I am done.
Yesterday I painted the floor boards and headlight ring, I will post a pic in a day or two when I put it all back together, the bike looks fantastic blacked out, what a difference from how it looked before I started.

Thanks,
I dont see anything in the Mods about it.
Are you aware of the mod that relocates it to the front of the bike? Where I might find it?

I searched in mods for recifier and its not that, I just cant think of where I read it.
Somewhere in a thread someone was talking about it, I read it but it didnt sink at the time.

Thanks again,
Lump

I dont know, the grips I had on there though came off surprisingly easy.
I thought I would have to unscrew the throttle side or something but nope, just twisted and pulled, the throttle sleeve is in perfect shape still on the bike, lol I just hope the grips that are coming go on as easily as these came off and fit properly.

Hey Chief, off topic,

what is that thing called that hangs by the driveshaft and looks like a small radiator of sorts?
I know there is a mod to relocate it and I wanted to look it up and see about doing that today, I was outside looking at it and I am just trying to see where I would put it.
I want to move it up front somewhere.
Anyway if you could remind me what it is called so I can find the mod in the other section that would be great, I have been looking but I dont see anything.

Thanks

You lucked out if you didn't have to cut the throttle grip off the sleeve... are those the oem grips?

Ok chief, going to read now.

I didnt have to cut anything.
These were able to twist a little and break the seal and just pull off.

So left on the bike is the throttle sleeve on the right side and nothing on the left, well a flanders lable, lol.

The grips inside diameter for the right side is 1 1/4 while the i.d. of the left side is 1" as they only have to pass over the naked bar and the throttle side has to pass over the handlebar plus the throttle sleeve which is still in place.

Thats what I expect to see happen when they arrive anyway.

I had been looking for a specific grip for my bike but could not find it in black unless I wanted to pay 140.00 or more for them.
I did find the exact same grip in Chrome though and I snagged a pair for $17.11 shipped to me so I just had to buy them.
If they fit I am going to paint them to match my bars and stuff.
They are high quality billet aluminum with chrome plating.
When they are painted they will look like part of my bars complete with bar ends, should be pretty cool looking like there is no grip at all and the bars themselves twist for throttle, cant wait, I will post a pic when I am done.

I am trying to finish the black out started by Kawasaki on this 99 and I figured I would start with a few cheap items I can experiment with myself.

I want to by new levers I found in black and some cool Arlen ness Mirrors in black but for now I cant, so I decided to get these grips and then while I am at it I am goin to pull the mirrors and levers and paint them myself and see how it all comes out.
The mirrors will have to go when my budget will allow I just hate the placement and look so any color they are I am still going to replace them with a tear drop or cross Arlen ness low profile mirror.

If I can live with it I will have saved $150.00 and got the look I was after and if it isnt satisfactory to me then I will still save up and buy the levers and mirrors when I can.

Thanks again,

Lump

The bars are 1"... the throttle side has to have the throttle sleeve... you put the new sleeve into the new grip then install on the bike. (or the old sleeve if you cut up the old grip).

Go over to the web site  mods/tips - there is a bunch of info on grips... also look in the accessories area for sleeves, etc. (under hand controls)

Hi all,
So I want to swap my grips.
I ordered a pair of 1" grips for my bike.
I have flanders 1" black beach bars.
I pulled off my existing grips and measured the bar end to check the diameter.
I foun that the left side diameter was 1" and the inside diameter of the rip is also 1".
When I check the throttle side I find that the grip inside diameter is actualy 1 1/4".
Is that because of the throttle sleeve?
So in other words would a set of grips with a 1" diamter normaly have the throttle side slightly larger?
I just want to make sure the grips I ordered are going to fit.
I can just wait til they arrive and find this out but Ifigured it couldnt hurt to ask and see what you all think.
Thanks for any info.
to be clear the left side outside diameter of the bars is exactly 1", and the right side is 1 1/4", I assume 1" grips will fit but I just need to make sure,
thanks again,
Lump
