Thanks Chief and Troll, that should get me going in the right direction.  I'll post how it turns out later and thanks again :)

Hi all, need some info on ign work on my 1500 Drifte (2002).   I have a Thunder (Harley type) ign sw. I've located on the left side (tool) cover. I want to leave the old sw intact and splice in the new one for ign only (no park lite)  The info from Thunder shows puting a 100 ohm resistor in line with one ign wire (there are 2 ign wires), I've had the old (stock) sw apart and don't see a resistor there.  Do I need the resistor?  My thoughts were splicing into the 2 ign wires and Batt wire, then tying the 2 ign wire together on the new sw post.  If any ones been there I would love to hear from you.      Thanks, Drifter Bob

Yes, its required.  As Troll indicates it is necessary.  its 100ohm, 1/2 watt - ensure you put it in the correct way... some folks have installed backwards...

Go over to the web site and click on Accessories or Mods/Tips - once there click HOME and then at the top type ignition into the search box... you will come up with a page of info on this mod (and various accessories as well). There are 3-4 mods listed. This is one of them...

This is the thing that cost me big bucks last season, and a fuel pump I didn't need.   The 100ohm resistor is built into the stock ign. to prevent theft by just crossing the wires. The ECM needs to see a correct voltage on the circuit, or it will not turn on the fuel pump. I still have my thunder ign switch, it was mounted in a nice chrome upper handlebar bracket, on the risers... mine is sitting on a shelf in the garage.  It uses the H-D riser pattern......ya want it?

Recovering H-D owner...W-650 Cafe' No excuses...Ride it or sell it to someone who will!
