Lots of oil in radiator - anything OTHER than head gasket?

Possibly a bad seal on the coolant pump. The shaft runs in oil inside the engine. You need to do a compression check with the radiator cap off, or a cylinder leak down check with the cap off, to see if air bubbles show up in the coolant

So the wifes 99 1500 overheated the other day.... It started steaming and she shut it down immediately. We let it cool down completely, put some water in the reservoir, and gingerly rode it home a short distance. Got home and noticed that the oil was oddly really low.....

So I bought a thermostat and pulled the tank thinking I needed to replace it and flush/fill the cooking system. Well wen I pulled the radiator drain plug, about a half quart of oil came out.... Straight oil.... Not even a little hint of coolant......

My first thought is this has to be a badly blown head gasket from overheating but when I called the local shop, they seemed quite perplexed by the possibility of a head gasket issue.... Could this be anything else? I suppose maybe a cracked block/ head that is allowing oil into the coolant channels and vice versa?
Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
