Using Oil

Inspection is the only way to see for sure what the problem is.

But it will have to be pretty bad before I start telling myself it's a Yamaha.

Nova Scotia but that won't be until the third week of August. Mushers sounds like a nice ride so let's set it up when you get back.

Well, maybe I should leave it alone then. I'm using that dirty oilsands oil from Alberta and it's cheaper than gas. LOL

I am getting blue smoke on a cold start but don't notice it after it warms up. And last trip it used most of the oil on the way out but stayed right up coming home. I've got another trip lined up for next month and will have to watch closely to see if it's using oil consistently or sporadically.

well hoggy that explains why you're getting such good gas mileage--- it's the oil burning . seriously it's got to be going somewhere and it must be burning if it's not leaking, therefore is it coming through the valve seals perchance? if it's burning, and I would say in this case somewhat excessively, there should be some blue smoke coming out the tailpipe while she's running---sure you're not seeing any of that?

that does seem to be excessive. I have never had an oil issue yet touch wood. I will check my oil in the morning. I just finished a ride of 1250 km or 776 miles and do not expect the oil to be down at all. Last year never notice any drop in oil during my whole ride.

I've had my 800 since it was new and from day one it has always used oil on a long trip. On a 1000 to 1500 mile trip it's not unusual to have to add a quart of oil. There is no leakage and no oil smoke and I don't know where the oil is going. I even tried using synthetic oil when I change the oil this spring and it made no difference.

Has anyone else noticed this with an 800?
