I have found the same thing.
I had expected the big heavy Drifter would only be enjoyable on the long rides and my smaller and much lighter dual sports would still be my usual rides after work.
But the Drifter is easy to ride, very comfortable, and has done well on every dirt road I have taken it on.
It won't replace any of my other bikes but it is an excellent addition to the stable.

Earlier this year I purchased an '81 GS850G.  I have owned tow other 850s over the years.  Totaled the 1st one and sold the 2nd one.  So, I thought it would be nice to have a 2nd bike ... and so, I finally got around to purchasing the aforementioned 850.  After riding it a bit, I came to realize that the Drifter is very comfortable and I really like the way to rolls down the road.  Now, the 850 sits in my garage and is only taken out for an occasional ride ... this season I racked up almost 300 miles on the 850 and well over 8k miles on the Drifter.  I guess that about makes the statement of which 22 wheeler I prefer.  But I won't sell the 850 and will use it sparingly.
